Police have made an arrest in the weekend murder of a Mayfair man in Fishtown.

According to police spokeswoman, Officer Jillian Russell, police have arrested 20-year-old Ryan McManus, of the 2600 block of Sepviva Street, for his suspected involvement in the weekend robbery and shooting that took Mayfair resident Shane Kelly’s life.

Officer Russell said the incident occurred at around 12:32 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 13, on the 1300 block of Hewson Street.

At that time, a pair of thieves confronted Kelly and a female companion and attempted to rob the 27-year-old man.

When the robbery failed, Russell said, the robbers fired several shots at Kelly as they fled.

Russell said Kelly, of the 6300 block of Crafton Street, was pronounced dead about 4:48 a.m. after being taken to Temple University Hospital.

After the shooting, Russell said McManus ran through a home near the scene of the crime in order to escape police.

He was apprehended later at his residence, she said.

Kelly was an active member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 61.

A.O.H. member Mike McCrane said he had known Kelly as a dedicated member of the group. He said Kelly had served three years as a sentinel of the A.O.H.

He organized regular softball and wiffle ball tournaments and served as a soccer coach for the group.

“He helped out all the charities we had. He was a great member,” said McCrane. “He was a great guy and he meant a lot to our organization.”

McManus has been charged with murder. On Monday, Nov. 14, police were seeking another man they believe was involved in the shooting. ••
