Breast Cancer Walk
The 8th annual Ladies of Port Richmond Breast Cancer Walk will be held on Sunday, May 20 at 10 a.m., at the Monkiewicz Recreation Center playground on East Allegheny Avenue at Richmond Street. Rain or shine.
Warm-up exercises will begin at 9:30 a.m. Come see special guests the Philly Phantic and the Camden Riversharks! Pre-registration is $30 in advance, $35 day-of (day-of registration at 8:30 a.m.).
To pre-register, visit the Monkiewicz Recreation Center playground on Saturday, May 12th from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Penn Treaty Park celebration
The Friends of Penn Treaty Park will host the annual Clothesline Art Contest, on Saturday, May 12, from 10 a.m. until noon. Children from pre-school age up to 16 are invited to participate. The contest will be held at Penn Treaty Park at Delaware and Columbia avenues. The park will also celebrate its newly-appointed inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places with awards and speakers that day. OLPR scholarship applications
Applications for the Gerry M. Heckler, Jr. Scholarship are now available to eighth-graders at Our Lady of Port Richmond school. Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded for the students’ freshman year at a Catholic high school. Students should ask their teachers for the application, and the deadline to apply is May 13. ••

Annual Italian Festival
Mother of Divine Grace in Port Richmond is holding its annual Italian Festival May 31 and June 1, 2, 7, 8 and 9 on the school grounds. The festival is open from 4:30 p.m. until close, with Italian dinners beginning in the school hall at 5 p.m. The festival brings together family friends and neighbors in the community for food, casino games, a beer garden and lots of good times. Justice for Wayne Walk
At 10 a.m. on July 28th, there will be a march in memory of Wayne Ellis. He was shot and killed while on his was home on July 28 in 2002 at Belgrade Street and Frankford Ave. He left behind a daughter, as well as tons of friends and family who are haunted by questions. His family said that it was his mothers dying wish to know who killed her son.
In the 10 years since his death the family claims they have no answers. The march hopes to break the silence.
They seek 100 or more people to join in the walk. Everyone is welcome. Afterwards we are going to have a block party (a beef and beer) at 2310 E. Fletcher St.
The walk will begin at Front and Spring Garden streets and head to Frankford Ave. at Belgrade St.
It costs $10 per person to participate in the walk and beef and beer. You will receive a bracelet and t-shirt.
It will cost $20 to attend the beef and beer if you don’t participate in the memorial walk.
The family will be selling shirts, bracelets, raffle tickets and baskets.
