Walking Fish shows

B. Someday Productions presents the final show of its season, Suburban Motel — two plays in repertory. The plays, Featuring Loretta and The End of Civilization will play through June 30 at the Walking Fish Theatre. Specific show dates and times listed online at www.walkingfishtheatre.com. Ticket prices are $20 for a single show and $30 for both. Walking Fish Theatre is located at 2509 Frankford Ave. Tickets can be purchased online at no extra charge, or at the door. ••

AMS movement classes

Angler Movement Studio is offering classes in basic movement for both adults and children, as well as adult classes in African dance, ballet, Pilates, kickboxing, stretch, Tai Chi, and more. AMS will offer continuous six-week sessions that can be paid for in advance ($80), or any class can be taken on a per class basis for a drop in rate of $15.

EKNA to meet

General community meeting Monday, June 18. Doors 6:30 p.m., meeting begins at 7 p.m. Location: Urban Worship Center, 2006 E Cumberland St. EKNA’s summer meetings will be held at the Urban Worship Center. Bingo at LSH

The Lutheran Settlement House, at Frankford Avenue and Master Street, will host bingo on Friday, June 22. A special lunch will be for sale at 11:30 a.m. $7 admission includes five lap cards and a free chance on the door prize.

FNA to meet

On Tuesday, June 19, the Fishtown Neighbors Association zoning meeting will be held at the Fishtown Rec. Center, 1202 E. Montgomery Ave. All residents of Fishtown are eligible to vote on the issues below.

Please bring proof of residence or business ownership in the form of a driver’s license or a photo ID and a lease, utility bill, or recent piece of mail addressed to your home or business.

The following addresses are up for zoning discussion: at 6:30 p.m., 1561 Hewson St.: a proposal for the legalization of an existing home (rear addition). At 7 p.m., 624 Flora St.: a proposal for seven homes. At 7:30 p.m., 1100 E. Hewson St.: a proposal to convert 11 properties into 12. ••

Port Richmond West CAN to meet

The next meeting of Port Richmond West CAN will take place on Wednesday evening, June 20 at 7 p.m. at Firm Hope Baptist Church at 2313 East Auburn St. Hear about community developments planned for the area, including a storm water park, and an energetic affordable housing proposal.

Customer appreciation day

At Sweets and Treats shop, 3138 Richmond St. June 16, noon until close. Because of community support, the shop was able to expand to now carry Hershey’s ice cream and an Asher’s chocolate counter. The shop will give every customer a free scoop of ice cream and samples of Asher’s chocolates and Jelly Belly jellybeans. ••

Join St. Anne’s choir

The music program at St. Anne’s Church, located at 2328 E. Lehigh Ave., is looking for choral singers to join the church’s festival choir. The choir will sing at the Solemn Closing of the Novena to St. Anne on Thursday, July 26 at 7 p.m.

Flea market and bake sale

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 88 will hold a flea market and bake sale Saturday, June 16 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Baked goods and refreshments will be sold inside Elm Tree Post 88, 1414 Palmer St.

There will be a flag retirement ceremony inside the Palmer Cemetery around 2 p.m. Flea market tables will be set up on the sidewalk of the cemetery and cost $8 to reserve; please call Marge at 215–426–6435 or Ginny at 215–425–3605. ••

Block Captain Bootcamp

Saturday, June 16, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Roberto Clemente Promise Academy, 122 W. Eerie Ave. Join Councilwoman Maria Quinones Sanchez, the Philadelphia Prevention Partnership, and the Latino Empowerment Alliance of Delaware Valley (LEAD) at the 1st Annual Block Captain-Community Leader Boot Camp!

The camp will provide block captains, community representatives and concerned residents with an opportunity to learn about the many resources and information available to them from the City of Philadelphia.

There will be representatives from the City departments of Streets, Licenses and Inspections, Health, PhillyRising, Recreation, Water and Revenue, and more.

Learn how to keep your block clean, organize a block party, and take advantage of recreation summer camp opportunities, senior and resident tax discounts, and LIHEAP funding. Meet your 7th Council District neighbors and organizations.

Problem gambling education

The Council of Southeast Pennsylvania presents a free training session for community leaders, faith-based program managers, social service providers and counselors to learn more about problem gambling in Pennsylvania and Philadelphia.

The program is a focused training initiative on gambling-related issues crucial in identifying and providing needed services to individuals and communities.

It is instructed by Jason Radosky, LCSW, CADC of The Council of Southeast Pennsylvania, Inc. The session is free; refreshments will be provided. June 19 from 4:45 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Atonement Lutheran Church at 1544 E. Montgomery Ave.

Summer Youth Arts Workshop

Asian Arts Initiative, a community-based arts center, is seeking applications for its annual free Summer Youth Arts Workshop and Summer Youth Lounge.

The weekday workshop sessions are hosted at the Initiative’s headquarters in Chinatown (1219 Vine St.) from July 9 to August 17.

Led by professional teaching artists who serve as mentors for youth interested in the arts, the sessions are free and open to Philadelphia public, private and charter school students in grades six through 12.
