This summer, Philadelphia’s Franklin Institute will feature the most comprehensive collection of ancient artifacts from Israel ever organized in the new exhibit Dead Sea Scrolls — Life and Faith in Ancient Times. The exhibit includes one of the largest collections of the priceless 2000-year-old Dead Sea Scrolls ever displayed in North America and an actual three-ton stone from the Western Wall in Jerusalem, and marks the world debut of four scrolls. Stay safe this summer — take a free self-defense class in memory of Sabina Rose O’Donnell, who was murdered June 2, 2010. The Urban Defense Center will offer the class every Wednesday in June. The class is held at 6:30 p.m. at the Urban Defense Center, 725 N. 6th St.
Participants learn basic and advanced self-defense techniques to avoid dangerous situations and to escape from an assailant.
Leading the class is Master Lawrence Whitaker, who has been certified in Restraining Arts by the Institute of Certified Martial Arts.
