We at the Star are very excited about the upcoming “Best of the Riverwards 2012” contest, and we hope you are too.
So far, we’ve received dozens and dozens of votes from readers who want to support the best in their neighborhoods.
It’s truly great to see so many people pushing for recognition of their favorite bars, parks, restaurants, shops and so much more.
The submissions we’ve received have also clued me in on some places I definitely want to visit myself — I’m new to Philly, after all.
Here’s what you need to know about the contest:
All your voting will culminate in one special issue of the Star later this summer — our “Best Of” issue.
After we count all the votes and establish the winners in each of the 20 categories, we’ll interview and photograph the winners and get all the inside information for the issue!
The issue will be a great way to discover places you might want to check out in other neighborhoods, or to simply learn more about and see recognition of a place you’ve visited over and over.
The winners of each category of the contest will also get a special certificate or plaque to display in their business (if, say, a park wins in the recreation category, we’ll award the friends group of that park the award — for example, The Friends of Konrad Square group, or the Friends of Campbell Square group).
Voting will continue for the next few weeks, so be on the lookout for our announcement of the end of the voting period.
All you need to know is to keep voting and stay tuned for our announcement of the issue.
You can find our “Best Of” ballot — and where to mail it — in the paper each week (see page 8 this week), and find the categories on a link on our website (www.bsmphilly.com, click on “Star”), and on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/starnewsphilly).
Feel free to send us, at email@example.com, your votes for any number of categories, but be sure to be specific! We’d hate to get votes for “Jim” for best bartender, and not know Jim’s full name or where he works (sorry, Jim).
This is shaping up to be a wonderful feature, and I can’t wait to continue seeing all the love you have for the places in your communities.
The riverwards really are the best of the best!
