Food drive for the needy
American Legion Post 821 is holding its annual food drive for the needy. All donations of canned goods and other non-perishables for Thanksgiving baskets can be dropped off at 4404 Salmon St., Bridesburg, on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays after 7 p.m. ••
Bridesburg Historical Society to meet
The next meeting of the Bridesburg Historical Society will be held tonight at 7:30, at All Saints’ Marian Hall, on the northwest corner of Edgemont and Buckius streets.
Speaker Jack McCarthy, archivist and historical consultant, will speak on “The Historical Highlights of Northeast Philadelphia,” featuring landmark buildings, institutions and events. Admission is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. For information, call 215–535–3828. ••
FNA to meet tomorrow
Please join the Fishtown Neighbors Association for its November general membership meeting. David Fecteau, from the Philadelphia City Planning Commission, will join the group to discuss the recent changes to the zoning code. Parking and height requirements, as well as whatever questions you have, will be addressed.
FNA will also be electing its board for 2013. The meeting will be held on Thursday, Nov. 15 at the Fishtown Rec. Center, 1202 E. Montgomery Ave. Arrive at 6:30 p.m. for coffee and chatting; the meeting starts at 7 p.m. ••
Explore the Delaware Waterfront
Enjoy a free program Thurs., Nov. 15 at the Independence Seaport Museum that will highlight some of the archaeological discoveries from the Fishtown neighborhood that have been produced in association with PennDOT’s ongoing I-95/Girard Ave. project.
The Nov. 15 program is being offered in conjunction with the I-95 artifact exhibit now open at the Seaport Museum (“Digging the City: Archaeological Discoveries from the Delaware Waterfront”), and will focus specifically on the Native American sites that have been found so far. The program runs from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Seaport Museum’s auditorium, and no advanced registration is required. The museum is located at 211 S. Columbus Blvd. ••
Texas Hold ’Em night
The Port Richmond Tigers will sponsor a Texas Hold ’Em poker tournament on Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Polish American Club, Allegheny Avenue at Richmond Street. Tournament will start at 7 p.m., registration will start at 6 p.m. The buy-in is $30, with big cash prizes to the winners.

Sons of Italy Ladies’ Night
The Sons of Italy, at Monmouth and Belgrade streets, will host a Ladies’ Night on Thursday, Nov. 15, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Enjoy a complimentary glass of wine and snacks while doing holiday shopping. Beef-and-beer for Nyasia Gillespie
Nyasia is a 17-year-old senior at Little Flower High School. Her grandfather was diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer last year, and passed away Sept. 7. This being her last year in school, Nyasia would love to stay in the apartment she lives in with her grandmother in Port Richmond. This beef-and-beer will raise funds for Nyasia.
Donations will be very much appreciated. Entertainment will be provided by The Great Scott Band and DJ Joe Polito. Raffles, auctions and chances will be available. Penn Treaty ceremony
Chief Tamanend and William Penn made a peace treaty 330 years ago, and the symbol of the Delaware Nation is a turtle. A wooden turtle carved by Rodger Win will be placed under the bulletin board in Penn Treaty Park on Saturday, Nov. 17.
The park asks children to collect stones now to make a rock garden for the turtle under the bulletin board.
