State senator’s family owns part of Wynn site
State Sen. Michael Stack (D-5th dist.) could be in for a windfall, as the Philadelphia Daily News reported that developer Steve Wynn’s proposed casino and hotel in Fishtown is on land that is owned in part by Stack’s family.
One fifth of the 60-acre site belongs to Stack’s mother, municipal court judge Felice Rowley Stack, the Daily News reported. The land could be worth an estimated $20 to $30 million, if Wynn is selected by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board for a casino license and builds a planned casino and hotel.
Stack told the Daily News that his mother would make all decisions regarding the property. ••
Duo sentenced for NoLibs store clerk murder
Two men were sentenced last week for shooting the clerk at a convenience store on Girard Avenue in the face with a 12-gauge shotgun during an attempted robbery in 2011, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
Quasheam Richburg, 22, and Marvell Hargrove, 19, of North Philadelphia, both pled guilty to third-degree murder for the death of Moustafa H. Shaker, 50, an Egyptian immigrant.
Shaker was working a night shift at his store, the Trax Food Mart under the Girard Avenue station of the Market-Frankford SEPTA line, when the two attempted to rob the store in 2011.
Richburg, who pled guilty to pulling the trigger on Shaker, faces a 30 to 60 year prison sentence. Hargrove accepted a plea agreement of 20 to 40 years in prison. ••
Seventeen cats found in Bridesburg home
A home on the 2000 block of Margaret Street, just outside Bridesburg, was found to contain 17 cats, which were rescued by the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PSPCA) last week, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
The house reportedly showed signs of hoarding and was filled with debris.
The PSPCA released a statement about the Bridesburg raid, stating they would continue searching the home for other animals and possibly cite the owner.
“Summer is typically a time when we begin to see a lot of hoarders,” said George Bengal, director of humane law enforcement for the PSPCA in the statement. “With warmer temperatures odors and insect infestations that often accompany hoarding situations become more apparent. Thankfully we will be able to get these animals in a healthier situation.”

Woman shot in Kensington
A 48-year-old woman was shot and wounded critically in Kensington last week. The victim was shot three times around 3 p.m. on the 3400 block of Crystal Street near Tioga Street in Kensington, the Philadelphia Daily News reported.
Police said the woman was hit in the ear, shoulder and abdomen. She was listed in critical but stable condition at Temple University Hospital. ••
Searching for lost dog
A poster on the community message board Fishtown.us posted on June 17 about a lost dog, “Penzey,” a brown and white freckled pit bull and pointer mix. Penzey has been missing since June 13, and was last seen at Trenton Avenue and Huntingdon Street.

NoLibs neighbor mugged June 13
A local resident reported a mugging at gunpoint on June 14, on the 900 block of 4th Street. The victim was a woman walking home from Superfresh.
The mugging occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. The victim reported being mugged by two young boys of approximately age 14, who were both riding one bike.
