On Saturday, July 20, from 11 a.m. to noon, the New Kensington Community Development Corporation, the Philadelphia Water Department, Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, Parks and Recreation, Fishtown Athletic Club, and Palmer Doggie Depot celebrated the “Big Green Block,” 1800 Blair St. in Fishtown.
NKCDC brought together the partners that made the block possible, and led tours of the blocks’ features. NKCDC, partners, and community members celebrated the efforts of five years of greening and community contributions on that Saturday.
Speakers included (pictured above): State Rep. Mike O’Brien, Councilman Mark Squilla, Shari Hersh (Project Manager at Mural Arts Program), Drew Becher (President of PHS), Ed Fagan (Director of the Development Division of Parks and Recreation), Joanne Dahme (Director of Public Affairs of the Philadelphia Water Department), Pat Cain from the Fishtown Athletic Club, Diane Pulvers from Palmer Doggie Depot, Sandy Salzman (Executive Director, NKCDC) and A.J. Thomson (NKCDC Board).
With recent completion of the storm water water basketball courts and other green spaces, it was a great day to celebrate the biggest, greenest block in Philadelphia.
