River Wards events for the week of August 7

Liberti church Teen Arts Camp

Teenagers from the River Wards have created works of art throughout the month of July at liberti church east’s arts camp, and will exhibit their work in the showcase, “Character Effect,” which will be on display through August in the Artspace Liberti gallery space, at 2424 E. York St.

Join liberti church at the gallery before and after Sunday services through August, from 10 a.m. to noon. ••

Konrad Square flea market

The Friends of Konrad Square will host flea markets on Aug. 10 and 24, at Konrad Square, Tulip and Dauphin streets, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Anyone interested in renting a space should call Vicky at 215–426–9654. ••

Port Richmond’s Second Saturdays

The kickoff of the free Port Richmond event, Second Saturdays, will take place on Saturday, Aug. 10, from 5 to 9 p.m., on Richmond Street between Allegheny and E. Clearfield St.

The event, sponsored by Sweets & Treats, 3138 Richmond St., will feature live music from Dependent and This Duo, a classic car show — if you have a classic car you’d like to show off, email portrichmondphl@gmail.com — and food from Port Richmond’s own The Tot Cart, Gigi & Big R, the Kami food truck and Krakus Market.

Donna’s Bar will provide a Polish beer gardent, and other beer will be provided by Harpoon Brewery and Philadelphia Brewing Company.

Penn Treaty Park movie night

The Friends of Penn Treaty Park rescheduled the rained-out July showing of “The Amazing Spider Man” for Friday, Sept. 13, at 6 p.m. in the park. ••

St. Anne’s ‘Shore Thing’

Join the St. Anne’s parish community on Aug.17, from 2 to 6 p.m., for the 11th annual Shore Thing at Lighthouse Pointe, 5101 Shawcrest Ave. in Wildwood, N.J. All proceeds benefit St. Anne church, which needs repairs.

LSH garden party

Lutheran Settlement House’s Community Education Program’s two year anniversary party will be held on Thursday, Aug.15, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., in the LSH garden and senior center.

Family Theatre Series at Penn Treaty Park

B. Someday Productions, which calls The Walking Fish Theatre home, is proud to announce an outdoor performance of The Family Theatre Series on Thursday, Aug. 15, at 6 p.m., at Penn Treaty Park.

SugarHouse Summer Food Truck Series

The SugarHouse Casino and Philadelphia Mobile Food Association have teamed up again this year for the continuation of their Summer Food Truck Series.

Dance showcase and health fair in Bridesburg

Join Health Partners for its fourth annual “Crazy Praise Dance Showcase” and health fair on Aug. 17. The Crazy Praise Dance Showcase will feature Grammy Award-winning artists Mary Mary, some of Philadelphia’s most talented praise dancers and an exciting announcement from Health Partners.

The Health Fair will include complimentary health screenings and information on Health Partners’ Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). Plus, there will be family fun activities like face painting, games, a children’s fun zone, giveaways and a special appearance by the Health Partners mascot, Ms. Roo the Kangaroo.

The health fair will take place from 2 to 4 p.m., doors open for the showcase at 5 p.m. and the showcase begins at 6 p.m. The event will take place at The Baptist Worship Center, 4790 James St. ••

Help out local Girl Scouts

The Girl Scouts at Glavin Playground are excited to be attending the Disney World Youth Educational Series learning program in June 2014. The Parent Committee is coordinating fundraising events for the trip throughout the upcoming year.

For now, the Scouts are asking the community to save aluminum cans and other recyclable metals starting now through Saturday, August 17. Take your cans to Sullivan Recycling, 3361 Edgemont St., and mention that your recyclables are for the Girl Scout fundraiser at Glavin Playgound.

On Saturday, August 17, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., the Girl Scouts will be available at Sullivan Recycling to accept items. A percentage of all the funds raised will be earmarked to give to the Ronald McDonald House at St. Christopher’s Hospital, and to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

To request aluminum and metal pick-up at stores, bars, etc., leave a message at 215–739–6456. The Girl Scouts will also be selling $1 candy bars door-todoor every Tuesday evening in August between 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. ••

St. Anne’s exercise classes

St. Anne’s Senior Center, 2607 E. Cumberland St. will offer the following exercise classes: Tai Chi every Wednesday at 10 a.m., and “Enhance Fitness” every Monday and Thursday at 9:30 a.m. Please call 215–426–9799 for additional information. ••

Carmella Playground Preschool signups

Bridesburg Recreation Center events

The recreation center, 4625 Richmond St., will hold a flea market on Tuesday, Aug. 13, at 10 a.m. All proceeds benefit the center’s children’s activities.
