Kensington Community Food Co-op member drive

KCFC is starting a “60 in 60” campaign to get 60 new members in 60 days, to reach 400 members by Dec. 1 and help the co-op open a new grocery store.

Great Fishtown Spelling Bee

The 12th annual Great Fishtown Spelling Bee is set for Friday, Oct. 25 at 3:30 p.m., at Shissler Rec. Center. The competition is open to students from grades 2–8. As always, the competition is free and open to any student from any school in Philadelphia. ••

Girl Scouts haunted house

The Girl Scouts and Advisory Council invite you to walk through their “Haunted House” at Frank Glavin Playground, 2600 Westmoreland St.

Vietnam Vets Candle Ceremony

Vietnam Veterans of America Liberty Bell Chapter 266 will host a candlelight name-reading ceremony at the Philadelphia Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Penns Landing to honor and remember the 646 men from Philadelphia who died in Vietnam. The ceremony will take place on Friday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m., rain or shine. ••

Halloween at Bridesburg Rec.

Kids’ basketball clinics

Once again, Jen Ricco-McCook is running basketball clinics for boys and girls ages 7 to 13. Group clinics will run Monday nights beginning Oct. 7 for 4 Mondays in a row at Cohox Rec. from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Cost is $5 per session or $15 for all 4.

Computer classes at LSH

Lutheran Settlement House is now offering free computer classes. Beginner classes are from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Thursdays, intermediate classes are from 12 to 3 p.m., and the “Job Readiness” class is from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays.

Bridesburg Rec. Christmas drive
