Kensington Community Food Co-op member drive

KCFC is starting a “60 in 60” campaign to get 60 new members in 60 days, to reach 400 members by Dec. 1 and help the co-op open a new grocery store.

Big events include: a Happy Hour tonight from 6 to 9 p.m. at Bottle Bar East, 1308 Frankford Ave. The bar will donate $1 from each drink sale; a meet and greet at Pizza Brain/Little Baby’s, 2311/2313 Frankford Ave., on Nov. 6 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.; an “Eat and Greet” on Nov. 16 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Adorn Boutique, 1314 Frankford Ave. For more information, visit kcfc.coop. ••

NKCDC e-recycling event

The New Kensington Community Development Corporation at Frankford and Berks will be accepting used electronics for recycling on Thursday, Oct. 24 from 4 to 7 p.m. Computers, cell phones, batteries and other appliances will be accepted. Great Fishtown Spelling Bee

The 12th annual Great Fishtown Spelling Bee is set for Friday, Oct. 25 at 3:30 p.m., at Shissler Rec. Center. The competition is open to students from grades 2–8. As always, the competition is free and open to any student from any school in Philadelphia. ••

Girl Scouts haunted house

The Girl Scouts and Advisory Council invite you to walk through their “Haunted House” at Frank Glavin Playground, 2600 Westmoreland St.

The Haunted House will be open Friday, Oct. 25 and Saturday, Oct. 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. Cost: $3. For more information, call 215–685–9898. ••

Vietnam Vets Candle Ceremony

Vietnam Veterans of America Liberty Bell Chapter 266 will host a candlelight name-reading ceremony at the Philadelphia Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Penns Landing to honor and remember the 646 men from Philadelphia who died in Vietnam. The ceremony will take place on Friday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m., rain or shine. ••

Halloween at Bridesburg Rec.

There will be trophies, door prizes, treats and a trombola (raffle), for boys and girls aged 10 and under. The contest will take place Saturday, Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. at the Bridesburg Recreation Center, 4625 Richmond St. For more information, call 215–685–1247. ••

Penny Auction in Fishtown

Bethel Baptist Church in Fishtown will hold a penny auction on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The auction will include items such as gift cards, homemade cakes, tools, books, jewelry, Christmas decorations and more. Liberty Lands Fall Fest

Come out to Liberty Lands, 926 N. American St., on Sunday, Oct. 27, from 2 to 5 p.m. for the 15th annual Fall Festival. This festival features a hayride, a children’s costume parade, pumpkin painting, food, beverages, and more. ••

St. Joachim raffle

A beef and beer will be held on Friday, Nov. 8 for Barbara Zimath, a Port Richmond woman assaulted during a robbery. The fundraiser will take place from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Polish American String Band Hall, 2729 Westmoreland St. ••

Franklin Towne beef-and-beer

LOPR trip to Lancaster

The Ladies of Port Richmond will take a trip to the American Music Theatre in Lancaster to see The First Noel Christmas on Saturday, Nov. 30. Wreaths Across Palmer

Chance drive for a Santa visit

Kids’ basketball clinics

Once again, Jen Ricco-McCook is running basketball clinics for boys and girls ages 7 to 13. Group clinics will run Monday nights beginning Oct. 7 for 4 Mondays in a row at Cohox Rec. from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Cost is $5 per session or $15 for all 4.

Kensington Co-op marketplace

Kensington Community Food Co-op runs a food marketplace every second and fourth Tuesday of the month, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Circle of Hope (2nd floor), at 2009 Frankford Ave.

Computer classes at LSH

Lutheran Settlement House is now offering free computer classes. Beginner classes are from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Thursdays, intermediate classes are from 12 to 3 p.m., and the “Job Readiness” class is from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays.

Bridesburg Rec. Christmas drive
