For nearly a decade, the 24th Police District Advisory Council has been providing Thanksgiving meals for police officers that are assigned to work on Thanksgiving Day.

The PDAC teams with community groups like Port Richmond Town Watch, Port Richmond on Patrol and Civic, and IMPACT Services, an organization that has donated funds and manpower over the years according to 24th PDAC president Pat Healy.

This year, on Thanksgiving Day, students from Memphis Street Academy Charter School will also volunteer to help serve meals to the officers. Mercer Street Café has also donated a breakfast for the officers; Dunkin Donuts is donated coffee and donuts, ShopRite will donate hot turkeys, Super Saver is providing beverages, and Boston Market is making available side dishes and roasted chicken.

Said Healy: “PDAC does this as a way of showing appreciation from the residents of the 24th District, whom we represent, to the officers of the 24th District for the time that they have to spend away from their family on holidays and other important family events, while those officers protect and serve our community.”

Also this year, as part of a fundraising effort, the PDAC is raffling off a 40-inch LCD high-definition TV that was donated by the Philadelphia Pharmacy.

The drawing, which is open to the public, will be held at noon during the Thanksgiving meal. Tickets will be available for purchase until a half hour prior to the drawing and cost $5 each or a book of 5 for $20. Tickets can be purchased by contacting either Pat Healey at 215–426–8851, or John Rajca at 267–304–2993.

Funds from this raffle will be used for the children’s Christmas party that the officers of the 24th have every year, and help to pay for the gifts that are obtained for each child.
