Walking Fish Theatre’s ‘American Fairy Tales’

Bridesburg Rec. Christmas drive

Through the Aid for Friends Christmas 2013 drive, items for senior shut-ins are currently being collected at the Bridesburg Recreation Center, 4601 Richmond St. Suggested items include toiletries, clothes, household items, and cash. Contact Miss Jackie at 215–685–1247. Men’s softball team sign-ups are also happening at the Rec. Center. St. Peter Christmas schedule

The National Shrine of Saint John Neumann at St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 1019 N. 5th St., will have the following Christmas liturgy schedule: On Christmas Eve, the Archdiocesan Boy’s Choir will perform at 5:30 p.m. in the Upper Church. At 10 p.m., the choir and orchestra will perform in the Upper Church. On Christmas Day, liturgies will be held at 9:30 a.m. in the Upper Church, 11 a.m., in Spanish, in the Upper Church, and 12:30 p.m. in the Upper Church. ••

NKCDC tree recycling

The City of Philadelphia does not pick up holiday trees left at the curb. Save your tree from ending up in a landfill on Saturday, Jan.4, from 9:30 a.m. until noon, at Palmer and Blair streets. Join Sustainable 19125 & 19134 (an initiative of NKCDC), your local civic associations (Olde Richmond Civic Association, Fishtown Neighbors Association, and East Kensington Neighbors Association), and Palmer Doggie Depot to recycle trees into mulch for the dog park. Cione Rec. Center programs

The Cione after school program now has openings. The program is for boys and girls age 5 to 12. It runs from 2:30 to 6 p.m., Monday to Friday from now until Memorial Day in May. For more information, call Cione at 215–685–9880 or stop by Aramingo and Lehigh avenues. ••

LSH classes in Fishtown

Lutheran Settlement House, 1340 Frankford Ave., has announced its weekly class schedule: Active Plus (dancercise) with Rita, Mondays, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., $3. Thai Chi with Milton McGriff, Wednesdays, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., $3. Line dancing with Arnie, Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., $3. LSH will also host will host a free weekly “enhanced fitness” (chair aerobics) program on Tuesdays and Fridays with Ivy, from 9 to 10 a.m. For more information, call LSH at 215–426–8610. ••

Port Richmond Leprechauns sign ups

Basketball sign-ups are taking place now. The clubhouse will be open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 6 to 8 p.m. Ages are 6–18, both boys and girls. Activities at Bridesburg Rec.

Zumba classes are being held Mondays and Thursdays from 7 to 8 p.m. Zumba Toning is on Wednesdays. Cost: $4 per class. Scrap booking class is Wednesdays from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Cost: $5 per class. Ladies Bowling League meets Tuesdays at Erie Lanes at 9 a.m. Cost: $10. For more information, call 215–685–1247. Preschool is offered Thursdays and Fridays from noon to 2:40 p.m. There are two spots left in the afternoon class. Child must be 3 as of Sept. 1, and must be potty trained. Toddler Time is Mondays and Thursdays, noon to 2 p.m. Three spots are available in the afternoon class. Child must be 2 as of Sept. 1. ••

Tax help deadline Jan. 15

The City has created PHL Tax LOOP (Longtime Owner Occupants Program) to provide tax relief to ease the burden for these homeowners. If you are approved, your tax bill will be reduced for 10 years. To get these savings, the city must receive your application by Jan. 15, 2014, and you have to meet the requirements — call 215–686–9200 with questions and visit www.phila.gov/loop for more info. If you are not eligible for LOOP, you may be eligible for other tax relief programs. ••

Craft classes in Kensington

Arts and crafts classes for adults are being offered in the Studio at Beacon on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Open studio format means you may come anytime between 6:30 and 8:30 to participate.Free and open to all adults. Mother of Divine Grace Bible study and group sessions

On Wed. evenings, Jan. 8 to March 12 from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Mother of Divine Grace Parish will be conducting a new Bible study. The theme will be “Women of the New Testament.” In these studies, it is not how much you know, but what you don’t know and will learn.

Pre-registration is not required, but calling the church will help them order the correct amount of materials. The cost of this study is $12.

Also, if you’re a Catholic who has been away from the church for a while, consider participating in M.D.G.’s “Catholics Returning Home” program. It is a six-week session consisting of six small group sessions. They will be held in the rectory, 2918 E.
