Suspected drunk driver crashes into cars, house in Bridesburg

A man driving a box truck was taken into police custody after he drove into several parked cars and a home last week.

The incident occurred at about 2 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 7 on the 4200 block of Richmond Street, according to 6ABC.

The driver ran into three cars, knocking one into a fire hydrant, and then into the front of a house.

A 79-year-old disabled woman was in the house at the time of the incident. There were no reported injuries, according to police.

The driver remained at the scene following the crash and was placed under arrest by police under suspicion of driving under the influence.

The incident remains under investigation. ••

New LOOP Deadline

The deadline to apply for the Longtime Owner Occupants Program (LOOP) tax relief program has been extended to Feb. 17.

Fairmount residents and many others have seen significant increases in their property taxes due to the actual value initiative (AVI). The LOOP program is for Philadelphia property owners who have lived in their home for at least 10 years, their assessed market value is three times greater than prior years, and their household income does not exceed pre-determined limits (i.e. $95,050 for household of 2 individuals or $118,800 for household of 4 individuals).

Eligible participants will receive a one-time 10-year abatement on their property taxes. Many 19130 property owners may be eligible for this program.

Local PECO customers set energy demand records

It’s been a record-breaking start for PECO customers this new year, with the recent arctic temperatures causing demand for electricity and natural gas to skyrocket.

Electricity demand for PECO customers reached 7,148 megawatts (MW), breaking the previous winter energy use peak of 6,852 MW set in 2007.

Natural gas demand totaled 759,5000 thousand cubic feet (mcf), shattering the previous all-time winter daily total of 718, 362 mcf set in January 2000.

To ensure customers’ safety during dangerous weather conditions, PECO urges anyone experiencing electric or natural gas issues to call the company immediately at 1–800–841–4141.

PECO also reminds customers to use energy as efficiently as possible. ••
