Lanes will be closed this weekend on the northbound Interstate 95 Girard Point Bridge for a bride inspection, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced in a statement to the press.

The work will close the northbound right lane of I-95 between Route 291 and Broad Street from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today, PennDOT said. The lane will also be closed on Saturday from 7 to 11 a.m. and Sunday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The inspection is part of PennDOT’s program to inspect the condition of state bridges at least once every two years to ensure their safety, the statement said. PennDOT is askng drivers to allow extra time for travel, as the inspections often result in delays.

Motorists can log on to www.511pa.com or call 511 from any phone to check traffic conditions on I-95 and major highways before heading out.
