New Port Richmond group
The Port Richmond Action Community Association West, a new Port Richmond registered community organization, will hold its first meeting on Wednesday, March 12, at 6:30 p.m. at Memphis Street Academy, 2950 Memphis St. The group will vote on the proposed Grace Townhomes development, a 36-unit complex for low-income renters at 2201 E. Auburn St. ••
Bible study
On Wednesday evenings through March 12, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Mother of Divine Grace Parish will be conducting a Bible study. Eat, drink, play
Eat Drink Play, the Kearny Elementary Home/School Association’s first major fundraiser, will be held on Friday, March 14, at 6:30 p.m. at Liberti Church East, 2424 E. York St., Suite 122. There will be a silent auction of items from Philadelphia based businesses and artists, including Zahav Restaurant and Liz Kinder Ceramics. There will be food from Chive Café, a wine tasting and an open bar with regional craft beers. Tickets will be available at the door and at Eventbrite.com. The event will raise money to support Playworks at Kearny Elementary School. Playworks is an organization that teaches conflict resolution through play. Learn more at playworks.org. Softball league

Fishtown Fusion tryouts
The Fishtown Fusion girls soccer team will be holding tryouts on Saturday, March 15, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, March 16, from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Monkiewicz Playground Back Field, 3201 Richmond St. Girls must have been born between August 1, 2006 and July 31, 2007 (entering second grade in the fall). Prior experience is not required but current players are experienced. If the number of players trying out allows, there may be multiple teams. Backyard chickens
Greensgrow Farms, 2501 E. Cumberland St., will host a backyard chickens workshop on Saturday, March 15, from 12 to 2 p.m. Marianne Morrison, who has worked with the aviary team at the Philadelphia Zoo, will teach the ups and downs of raising chickens in Philadelphia. Chinese Auction
Bridesburg Recreation Center, at 4625 Richmond St., will host this event on Sunday, March 16. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and the drawings start at 2 p.m. There is a $2 entrance donation, which includes a ticket for a Target gift card drawing. There are more than 200 baskets and prizes. Fishtown Neighbors Association will meet on Tuesday, March 18, at 7 p.m. at the Fishtown Recreation Center, 1202 E. Montgomery Ave. Attendees will be able to vote on a proposal for a four-story multi-family building, with first floor industrial use and off-street parking, at 958 Shackamaxon St. All residents of Fishtown are eligible to vote. The Richmond Book Club will meet on Thursday, March 20, and the third Thursday of each month, at 6:15 p.m. This month the discussion will be on the 2014 One Book, One Philadelphia title, The Yellow Birds, by Kevin Powers. Spaghetti dinner
Boy Scouts of America Troop 11 will be hosting a spaghetti dinner at the Fire Union Hall, 2500 Lefevre St., on Sunday, March 23. Tickets can be bought in advance at Grace Church, 2645 Venango St., on Mondays between 5 and 8 p.m. There will be a Chinese auction and a 50/50 chance. The event is a fundraiser for summer camp. Community health fair
St. Anne’s Senior Community Center, 2607 E. PRCG meeting
Port Richmond Community Group will have its monthly meeting on Thursday, March 27, at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Help Christians Church basement on Allegheny Avenue at Gaul Street.

Daniel O’Connor, Lieutenant John McCrory of the 24th Narcotics Unit and a certified addictions counselor to discuss drug use and sales in the area. State Rep. Penny Party
The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 88 will hold their annual Penny Party fundraiser on Saturday, March 29, at Elm Tree Post 88, 1414 Palmer Street. Admission is $3, which includes a beverage, slice of cake and envelope of tickets. Additional tickets will be on sale for $1 per envelope, as well as 50/50 chances, large prize raffle tickets and refreshments. Doors will open at 1 p.m. and the party begins at 2 p.m.
Chili cookoff
Fishtown Neighbors Association is looking for contestants for its 4th Annual Chili Cookoff. The event will be held on Sunday, March 30, from 1 to 4 p.m. at 2424 E. Bridesburg Rec activities
Zumba classes will be held on Mondays and Thursdays from 7 to 8 p.m. Zumba toning classes will be held on Wednesdays at the same time. The fee for all classes is $4 per person.
Scrapbooking will be held on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. The cost is $5 per class. You only need your photos and a book.
