Caregiver support

The first lecture in the CARES (CAregivers REducing Stress) caregiver support program lecture series will be on Wednesday, March 26, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., at Lutheran Settlement House, 1340 Frankford Avenue. The topic is advanced health care planning: attendees will learn about the new Pennsylvania advance health care decisions law, advance directives, health care power of attorney and guardianship. Portside Arts Center events

Portside Arts Center, 2531 E. Le-high Ave., will host a teen ballet class on Wednesday, March 26, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. and a teen hip hop class on Thursday, March 27, from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. An arts and crafts class will take place from 4:30 to 6 p.m. each Tuesday for ages 7 to 10 and Thursday for ages 4 to 6. The cost is $10. “Girl Power” arts and crafts classes will take place each Wednesday from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The cost is $10. Child and teen acting classes will take place on Wednesdays from 4 to 5 p.m. for ages 5–7, 5 to 6:30 p.m. for ages 8–12 and 6:30 to 8 for ages 13–17. PRCG meeting

Port Richmond Community Group will have its monthly meeting on Thursday, March 27, at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Help Christians Church basement on Allegheny Avenue at Gaul Street. The group will meet with new 24th Police District commanding officer Capt. Daniel O’Connor, Lieutenant John McCrory of the 24th Narcotics Unit and a certified addictions counselor to discuss drug use and sales in the area. State Rep. Fishtown beautification

Interested in making Fishtown even more beautiful? Then consider joining the FNA’s Beautification Committee. These meetings are open to all neighborhood residents and are always open to new members. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, March 27 at the Fishtown Recreation Center at 6:30 p.m. ••

Clay creations class

This group will meet for 12 weeks on Friday afternoons from 12:30 to 2 p.m. beginning March 28 through June 20 at St. Anne’s Senior Center at 2607 E. Cumberland St. A free hands-on demonstration class will take place on Friday, March 21, at 12:30 p.m. Learn about the art of hand building with clay to create pots and other clay creations. Build a kinetic sculpture

Philadelphia Sculpture Gym at 1834 Frankford Ave. will host a workshop on Saturday, March 29 from 2 to 4 p.m. Join Bevan of Philadelphia Sculpture Gym for an in-depth, hands on exploration of advanced techniques for fabricating and decorating a kinetic sculpture in this one-of-a-kind facility. There is a $10 fee. ••

Penny Party

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 88 will hold their annual Penny Party fundraiser on Saturday, March 29, at Elm Tree Post 88, 1414 Palmer Street. Admission is $3, which includes a beverage, slice of cake and envelope of tickets. Additional tickets will be on sale for $1 per envelope, as well as 50/50 chances, large prize raffle tickets and refreshments. Doors will open at 1 p.m. and the party begins at 2 p.m. ••

Michael Strange Foundation

Slack’s Hoagie Shack, 2499 Aramingo Ave., has joined with the Michael Strange Foundation. On Saturday, March 29, from noon to 6 p.m., every soda purchased at Slack’s will go to the Michael Strange Foundation. Hoodies and T-shirts will also be available for purchase. ••

Spring fling beef and beer

St. Laurentius School Development Committee will be hosting a Spring Fling Beef and Beer on Saturday, March 29, from 7 to 11 p.m., at Holy Name of Jesus Church Hall, 701 Gaul St. Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased at the door, at the rectory or from the school (call 215 423 8834). Proceeds will benefit St. Laurentius School and Holy Name of Jesus Parish. ••

Chili cookoff

Fishtown Neighbors Association is looking for contestants for its 4th Annual Chili Cookoff. The event will be held on Sunday, March 30, from 1 to 4 p.m. at 2424 E. York St. All contestants must bring 16 quarts of chili. There is no fee to enter but there are prizes for winning. For more information, contact Jed at chilicookoff@fishtown.org. ••

Softball league

The Port Richmond Softball League, a men’s slow-pitch league using wooden bats, has a few openings left. Games will be played at various fields in Port Richmond. The league will run weeknights from mid-April until July. For more information, call 215–685–9894 or 215–685–9880. ••

Bridesburg Rec activities

Zumba classes will be held on Mondays and Thursdays from 7 to 8 p.m. Zumba toning classes will be held on Wednesdays at the same time. The fee for all classes is $4 per person.

Scrapbooking will be held on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. The cost is $5 per class. You only need your photos and a book.

A ladies bowling league will be held Tuesday mornings at 9 a.m. at Erie Lanes. The cost is $10 per week, which includes bowling and prize money. For more information, call 215–685–1247. Teams interested in participating in Bridesburg Recreation Center’s spring/summer men’s softball league are asked to call Dan at 215–605–6004. ••

Blight busters ball

NKCDC will celebrate their 2nd annual Blught Buster’s Ball at Frankford Hall on Thursday, April 3 from 6 to 8 p.m. The board of directors along with business owners, developers, political leaders and local residents will gather to toast the efforts of NKCDC to raise funds for the organization. Hetzel’s field fundraiser

A fundraiser for Hetzel’s field will take place Saturday, April 5, from 7 to 11 p.m. at Holy Name Church Hall, 701 E. Gaul St. It will be an oldies themed event with music from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Tickets cost $25 and include food and beer. All proceeds will go toward the continued revitalization of Hetzels field. For tickets, call Greg Fox at 215–301–9858. ••

Flea market

The Friends of Konrad Square will host a flea market on Saturday, April 5 and 19 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Tulip and Dauphin Streets. Anyone interested in renting a space should call Vicky at 215–426–9654. ••

Ice cream party

Holy Name Church Hall, located at 701 Gaul St., will host an ice cream sundae party with the Easter Bunny on Sunday, April 6 at 1 p.m. Boys and girls make their own ice cream sundaes and visit with the Easter Bunny. The cost is $2. Bring your own camera for pictures. ••

Basketball clinic

Big 5 Hall of Famer Jen Ricco-McCook will be teaching basketball clinics on Monday nights at Cohox Recreation Center at 2901 Cedar St. from 6 to 7 p.m. beginning April 7.

The clinic will run for five weeks. The cost is $5 per session or $20 for all five. Registration will be held on the first Monday night session. Two Saturday clinics will also be held; a ball handling clinic on Saturday, April 12 and a shooting clinic on Saturday, May 17. These clinics will be held from 10:30 to 11 a.m. and cost $20 each.
