Frank Glavin Playground, Almond and Westmoreland streets, is offering basketball and soccer for children ages 3 to 5. Troop 11 will hold its Good Friday tuna hoagie sale on Friday, April 14 at Grace Church and the Incarnation, 2645 E. Venango St. Pickups will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Price is $5 for tuna hoagies or cheese hoagies and $6 for tuna with cheese hoagies. Sides include macaroni or potato salad. Easter candy sale
Bethesda Methodist Church, 2820 E. Venango St., will host its homemade Easter candy sale on Saturday, April 15, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Easter eggs are 2 for $1 and include butter cream, coconut, chocolate, peanut butter, and fruit and nut. Lollypops, nests and other candy will be available for purchase for 50 cents to $1.
Revive Week
The Block Church will host Revive Week until Saturday, April 15. On Wednesday, April 12, volunteers will have the opportunity to help String Theory Schools and the Philadelphia Performing Arts Charter School by assisting in various cleaning, organizing, and repair projects. On Thursday, April 13, volunteers will provide lunch for the 24th Police District. On Saturday, April 15, there will be an Easter egg hunt at Penn Treaty Park, 1301 N. Beach St., from 2 to 4 p.m. The event will feature a bounce houses, characters, DJ, photo booth, prizes, and a separate hunt for furry friends. All members of the community are welcome to attend. Revive Week will be a testament to The Block Church’s mission “reviving the city one block at a time.” The Block Church will host four services Easter weekend, beginning April 14 with a Good Friday service in Center City at the Clef Club of Jazz, 738 S Broad St., 19146. Dyngus Day
The Port Richmond Business Alliance will host Dyngus Day Festivities on Monday, April 17, from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Polish Eagles Sports Club, 3157 E. Thompson St. Enter on Clementine Street. The event will feature PKM dancers, the Music Box Band, Polish American String Band and children’s activities. Traditional Polish food and drinks will be available for purchase. Admission is $10. Children under 12 are free. Proceeds will benefit regional Catholic schools and the Polish American Social Services.
FNA zoning meeting
FNA will hold a zoning meeting on Tuesday, April 18, at at 7 p.m. at Fishtown Recreation Center, 1202 E. Montgomery Ave. Voting will take place on a proposal for dividing two lots into three to create three single-family homes with three off-street parking spots at 518–22 E. Thompson St. and a proposal to create new deck access from the second floor of an existing attached structure with eight dwelling units at 1124 Shackamaxon St. All residents and business owners in Fishtown are eligible to vote. St. Laurentius 5k
The 6th Annual Saint Laurentius 5k will be held on Saturday, April 29. Golf outing and banquet
Friends of Saint George will hold the 6th Annual Golf Outing and Banquet on Sunday, April 30, at Juniata Golf Club. Registration begins at 8 a.m., rain or shine. Frank Glavin “A&W” Playground is offering the following programs. Improv for Kids is held on Thursdays, from 6:30 to 7:30, starting on Feb. 16, for children ages 8 to 12. The drama program aims to improve self-confidence, social skills and teach kids how to make up silly scenes on the spot. Fee is $40 for eight weeks. Advance registration is required. Food pantry hours change
St. Michael’s Church, Trenton Avenue and Cumberland Street, has revised hours for the weekly food pantry distributions. Distribution hours are from 11 a.m. to noon. Police, firemen, breast cancer and yellow bows are always available. Bows and banners cost $3 each and can be purchased any weekday, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Special colors are available in one week.
