River Wards events for the week of June 7

MDG Italian Festival
Mother of Divine Grace Parish’s annual Italian Festival will be held on Thursday June 8, Friday, June 9, and Saturday, June 10, at 6 p.m. at Thompson and Cambria. Spaghetti suppers will be served every night in the air-conditioned school hall from 5 to 8 p.m. Take-out is available beginning at 4 p.m. Other food available will include fried dough, pizza, sausage and peppers, meatballs, and roast pork sandwiches, all cooked homemade and served in the food court. Entertainment will include wheels of chance, moon bounce, games for children of all ages, a beer garden offering craft, domestic and imported beers, along with specialty drinks, and the gaming hall. St. George Bazaar
St. George Parish, Edgemont and Venango streets, will hold its bazaar on Thursday June 8, Friday, June 9, and Sunday, June 10. Kitchen opens at 6 p.m. Activities begin at 7 p.m. There will be chances for Phillies tickets, a beer garden, nightly air-conditioned Bingo, card games, homemade pierogies and blynais, barbecue, and children’s games and activities.

PROPAC meeting
PROPAC will hold a meeting on, Wednesday, June 7, at 7 p.m. at The Columbia Social Club, 3529 Almond St. Zoning issues will include 2866 Aramingo Ave., for a use permit for use as two-family household living in an existing attached building; 3630 E. Thompson St., for a use permit for creation of one accessory off-street open-air parking space accessory to an existing single-family household living in an existing, semi-detached structure; 2609 E. Cambria St., for a use permit for proposed retail sale of machinery, equipment and decorative architectural elements and for storage of elements and artist studio for repair, assembly and cleaning of sculpture; and 2500 E. Tioga St. for a permit for the erection of six detached structures for a multi-family household living of 118 dwelling units with 59 accessory parking spaces.

Fishtown Library events
Fishtown Library. 1217 E. Montgomery Ave., is hosting free events for the public. A breast cancer information session will be held on Wednesday, June 7, at 6 p.m. A representative from the Linda Creed Breast Cancer organization will give an informative presentation on breast health for all, including the LGBT community. Master Gardener, a vegetable gardening workshop, will be held on Monday, June 19, at 6 p.m. The event will feature a presentation from the Penn State Master Gardener Series on how to grow your own vegetables. Philadelphia Federal Credit Union will present a credit seminar on Wednesday, June 14, at 6 p.m. Register at PFCU.com. Tigers Night

Alexander Adaire School update
Principal Anna Jenkins will report on initiatives, extracurricular and special program available at Adaire and present the next two years of the school’s five-year plan on Thursday, June 8, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Adaire, 1300 E. Palmer St. Enter through the doors off Thompson Street and the schoolyard beneath the columns.

Youth programs at Fishtown Library
Fishtown Library, 1217 E. Montgomery Ave., will hold Merge Dance Studio Storytime on Friday, June 9, at 10:30 a.m. Children will dance, sing, and play at this special storytime event. Recommended for ages 2 and up. The Summer Reading Kickoff Party will be held on Monday, June 12, from 4 to 6 p.m. Sign up for summer reading and get your face painted. Surprises await. Penn Treaty Park events
Friends of Penn Treaty Park, 1341 N. Delaware Ave., will host free events for the public in June. A free 80s concert featuring Class of 84 will be held on Friday, June 9, from 6 to 9 p.m. A Flag Day celebration will be held on Saturday, June 10, at noon. Come get a free flag. The grand opening of the playground will be held on Wednesday, June 14, at noon. Nature Heroes featuring animal habitats will return on Saturday, June 24, at 4:30 p.m.

Kids health and safety fair
State Rep. John Taylor will host a Kids Health and Safety Fair on Saturday, June 10, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Cione Playground, 2600 Aramingo Ave. Organizations present will include the Port Richmond on Patrol and Civic Group; representatives from CHIP; Operation Safe Kids and Philadelphia Secret Service; the greater Philadelphia Bike Coalition; the Maternity Care Coalition; WIC, Pennsylvania Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children; the 26th Police District; SEPTA; Children’s Hospital Poison Control; and the Butterfly Pavilion and Insectarium. Campbell Square flea market
The Friends of Campbell Square seasonal flea market, Belgrade Street and Allegheny Avenue, will be held on Saturday, June 10, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fee is $15 for a spot. Cash only. No checks. Painting party

Financial exploitation forum
The Philadelphia Financial Exploitation Prevention Task Force will present a free forum for anyone interested in learning how to avoid becoming a victim of financial exploitation on Wednesday, June 14, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Ralston Center, 3615 Chestnut St. FOX 29 reporter, Chris O’Connell, will moderate the panel, which will include Philadelphia City Councilman Derek Green and other panelists representing the banking, security and technology industries.

St. Adalbert Parish festival
St. Adalbert Parish Festival will be held on Thursday, June 22, Friday, June 23, and Saturday, June 24, beginning at 6 p.m., on the parish grounds, Allegheny Avenue and Thompson Street. There will be games for children, a moon bounce, face painting, a beer garden, a flea market, games of chance for the specialty baskets, a cake booth, jardo etc., homemade Polish & American food, cash casino and much more. Entertainment will be provided by the Polish American String Band on Thursday, DJ Patty-Pat on Friday and Continental Polish music on Saturday. Alumni Night will be on Friday, June 23. Festival will take place rain or shine.

Rock to the Future camps
Rock to the Future’s GuitarStars summer camp will run from July 10 to July 14, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for ages 7 to 12. Early drop-off and late pick-up available. DRCC free outdoor movie series
The Delaware River City Corporation will host its 3rd annual Free Outdoor Summer Movie Series. The series will kick-off with Toy Story on Thursday, July 13, at sundown in the field at Pennypack on the Delaware Park State Road and Pennypack Path. The remaining lineup includes Lilo and Stitch on July 27, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory on Aug. 20, Finding Dory on Aug. 17, and Jurassic Park on Aug. 24. All movies begin at sundown. Bridesburg rec photos

The Bridesburg Recreation Center, 4625 Richmond St., tot program will begin in September. Child must be of age as of Sept. 1. Looking for pictures from the Vet
Lou and Lynn Iatarola are planning a book on Veterans Stadium, and are asking the public to submit photos.The Iatarolas are looking for images related to sporting events, concerts and special events held at the Vet as well as demolition photos and images of the stadium area before and during construction. Game night
Friends of Penn Treaty School and Circle of Hope host a monthly family and teen friendly game night on the fourth Friday of every month from 6 to 9 p.m. at 2007 Frankford Ave. Games & snacks are provided, but guests are welcome to bring more.

Toddler storytime

Portside art classes

Cione Playground programs
Cione Playground, 2600 Aramingo Ave., is offering programs to the public. Zumba classes will be held on Fridays, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. and cost is $5 per class. Glavin Playground programs
Frank Glavin “A&W” Playground is offering the following programs. Improv for Kids is held on Thursdays, from 6:30 to 7:30, for children ages 8 to 12. The drama program aims to improve self-confidence, social skills and teach kids how to make up silly scenes on the spot. Fee is $40 for eight weeks. Advance registration is required. Book Club for youth ages 6 and over will be held on Mondays, from 6 to 6:30 p.m. with Miss Bridget. Program is free. Chess Club for youth ages 6 and older will be held on Tuesdays, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Participants will learn the basics of chess and strategies to improve. Cost is $20 for eight weeks. Food pantry hours change
St. Michael’s Church, Trenton Avenue and Cumberland Street, has revised hours for the weekly food pantry distributions. Distribution hours are from 11 a.m. to noon. There will no longer be evening hours. Members from the 19125 and 19134 may come twice a month or three times a month if a month has five Thursdays. For details, call 215–423–0792.

Nutrition assistance for seniors
Residents 60 and older who are disabled and have low to modest income may be eligible for SNAP benefits. If you are single and your income is less than $1962 a month, or less than $2656 a month for a couple, you may qualify. There is no limit on how much a senior has in savings and checking accounts. For assistance in completing an application, schedule an appointment with the Social Service Coordinator at St. Anne’s Senior Center, 2607 E. Cumberland St., 215–426–9799.

Women self-defense classes
Women self-defense classes will be held at Fishtown Recreation Center, 1202 E. Montgomery Ave., on Tuesdays, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Cost is $10 per class. Course certification available. Support group
Lost parents and family members group meets every third Monday of the month at 7 p.m. at Cione Recreation Center, Lehigh and Aramingo avenues. Anyone who is suffering from the loss of a loved one, friend or whoever is welcome.

Bridesburg food pantry
Bridesburg Recreation Center, 4625 Richmond St., is accepting nonperishable food and clothing donations for the needy in the neighborhood. Donations can be dropped off on weekdays, between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.

Kirtan class
MotherHeart Studio, 2359 E. Susquehanna Ave., welcomes everyone in the neighborhood to take part in MotherHeart Kirtan. Kirtan is the recitation of spiritual ideas through songs of devotion. Style is call and response singing of mantra and sounds.Event begins at 7:15 p.m on every second Friday of the month. Donation only.

Bingo at Ukrainian Cathedral

Exercise classes for people 50 and older will be offered at St. Anne’s Senior Center, 2607 E. Cumberland St. Class schedule will be Enhance-Fitness on Mondays at 12:30 p.m., Thursdays at 11 a.m., and Fridays, at 10:30 a.m., Chair Yoga on Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m. (except the second Tuesday of each month), and Tai Chi on Wednesdays at 10 a.m.

Creative art classes
St. Anne’s Senior Center, 2607 E. Cumberland St., is offering creative workshops for individuals ages 50 and older. Bridesburg bows and banners
Bridesburg Recreation Center, 4625 Richmond St., has patriotic, police, firemen, breast cancer bows and Bridesburg pride banners available for purchase. Bows and banners cost $3 each and can be purchased any weekday, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Orders for bows for special events are available with three-day delivery. Marine veterans group
