Star Newspaper editor will be on maternity leave until the end of the November

I could use some “Mike Schmidt Magic” right about now.
On May 14, 2015, I covered the Delaware River City Corporation’s annual Spring Fling at the Glen Foerd Mansion.
Mike Schmidt was one of the honorary guests and I had the chance to meet him.
I also happened to be 39 weeks pregnant with the star of my mommy column, Maximus.
That night, I went into labor and Max arrived the next day at 8:22 p.m.
Mike Schmidt Magic.
As I write this, I’m 38 ½ weeks pregnant and rather than pass my recorder off to my reporter and have her write all my stories (shout out to former editor, Julie Zeglen, for writing the Spring Fling story back in 2015), we’ve planned ahead.
Next week’s stories are already in and we’ve got some content to spare.
As of Friday, Aug. 25, I’m officially taking a three-month-plus hiatus and Max will soon share his corner with a baby sister.
As much as I genuinely enjoy hearing all your stories and giving everyone the opportunity to have their voices heard, the baby business is no walk in the park.
I’m definitely grateful to be able to step back and soak up the early days of mommyhood all over again.
Except diaper duty.
But don’t worry.
I’ll be back in early December to cover all the hyperlocal stories I’ve chased since starting with the Star in 2013.
In the meantime, keep sending all your calendar events, happy birthdays, press releases and story ideas to [email protected].
I live in the River Wards, so I can’t imagine completely cutting myself off from all the excitement, but you won’t see my byline for a little bit.
And, if you see me around, don’t forget to say “Hi!”
Sure, I’ll be on maternity leave, but my ears are always open for a good scoop!
Eskimo kisses,
Mommy aka Melissa Komar, Star Newspaper editor
