While everyone from City Council president Darrell Clarke to Yards Brewing Company have put friendly wagers on the Super Bowl, ReAnimator Coffee Roasters has decided to raise money for Philadelphia’s cash-strapped school district to celebrate the Eagles making it to the big game.

The Kensington-based coffee roastery is selling ‘Foles-gers,’ a homage to the Eagles starting quarterback and a limited edition blend with “a lot of brown sugar sweetness, balanced with notes of almond, and a gentle acidity that keep things refreshing and clean,” according to Matt Scottoline, director of coffee at ReAnimator.

Tasting notes also include “victory.”

While the blend is flying off the shelves, ‘Foles-gers’ originally started as an inside joke.

“After the Eagles won the NFC Championship, Mark [Capriotti], one of the owners, and myself were texting back and forth about doing a special Eagles blend,” Scottoline said. “I jokingly said “Foles-gers,” and it kind of grew from a joke into an idea we wanted to run with. It kind of happened by accident.”

Taking a cue from the Eagles’ playbook, ReAnimator decided to donate all proceeds from sales of the blend to the School District of Philadelphia.

“We chose the Fund for the School District of Philadelphia because we were inspired by what the Eagles organization was doing with that charity, and if we wanted to sell something Eagles-related, we wanted to contribute as well,” Scottoline said. “All profits from Foles-gers are going straight to the Fund. We’ve been able to raise a really impressive amount of money so far. Response has been really positive.”

ReAnimator previously created a blend to benefit the Dining Out For Life organization.

So, will another blend be released if the Eagles win?

“Maybe…,” Scottoline responded.

The 10-ounce, whole bean bags of Foles-gers are available for purchase at ReAnimators Fishtown cafe, 1523 E. Susquehanna Ave.; Res Ipsa, 2218 Walnut St.; DiBruno Brothers Rittenhouse, 1730 Chestnut St.; United by Blue in Old City, 205 Race St.; and at reanimatorcoffee.com for $19.

All proceeds go to The Fund for the School District of Philadelphia.

If you’re hoping to have some Foles-gers in your cup, a Hail Mary isn’t going to help.

“We’re doing our best to keep bags in stock. The best place to guarantee a bag is to order from reanimatorcoffee.com,” Scottoline said, “but if you’re going to visit a location to purchase, we’d recommend calling ahead to make sure there are bags in stock. We’ll be making as much as we can to fulfill demand.”
