The City of Philadelphia will observe National Vietnam Veterans Day with a presentation of a resolution from City Council to the Memorial Fund Board of Directors. The presentation will be made during a ceremony by Councilman David Oh on Thursday, March 29, at 2 p.m. at the Philadelphia Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Front and Spruce streets.
Old Brick Holy Week
Kensington “Old Brick” United Methodist Church, 929 Marlborough St., will hold services for Holy Week. Homemade Easter candy sale
Bethesda Methodist Church, 2820 E. Easter egg hunt
The Block Church, 2619 E. Indiana Ave., will host a free Easter egg hunt at Penn Treaty Park on March 31 from 2 to 4 p.m. The event will include 31,000 eggs for children to find, two bounce houses, face painting, water ice and a photo booth to take a picture with the Easter Bunny. Food trucks will also be present as a food option. The egg hunt is open to all children from 1 to 11 years old and will be broken up into age categories: 1 to 3, 4 to 5, 6 to 8 and 9 to 11. All egg hunts will run for 20 minutes each. Attendees are encouraged to pre-register on Eventbrite for tickets and a chance to win a prize. Walk-ons to the egg hunts will be limited. The Block Church hosts Sunday services at their Port Richmond location in Richmond Hall at 9:00 a.m., 10:30 a.m., and noon.
War memorial fundraiser
A beef-and-beer benefit will be held for the planned Iraq and Afghanistan Memorial on Saturday, March 31, from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Pennsylvania National Guard Armory, 2700 Southampton Road.Tickets cost $35. The evening will include raffles, baskets and music. Proceeds will go toward the construction of a memorial to honor the 288 men and women from Pennsylvania killed in Iraq and Afghanistan in the Global War on Terrorism since 2001. The site will be in the waterfront area of Penn’s Landing, just yards away from the Korean and Vietnam war memorials. Dyngus Day festivities
The Port Richmond Business Alliance will sponsor “Dyngus Day” on Monday, April 2, from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Polish Eagles Sports Club, 3157 E. Thompson St. Admission is $10. OLPR Family Auction
Our Lady of Port Richmond will hold its annual Family Auction on Friday, April 6, from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Food will be available for purchase starting at 5 p.m. and drawings for baskets will start at 7:30 pm sharp. Winners do not have to be present for the drawings. Tickets are 25 for $5 and can be purchased at the auction or in advance through an OLPR student.The auction is located in the lower hall and everyone is invited to enter through the Edgemont Street school yard.
Summer Camp registration
The Welcome Center Summer Camp will be holding registrations on Friday, April 6, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the gym at Grace Church, 2645 E. Venango St. Camp will be held Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., from June 18 through Aug. 10. Children ages 5 to 12 are encouraged to enroll. Cost is $1200 for all eight weeks, or $150 per week if signing up for individual weeks. First week’s payment is due at signup.

Home run derby on April 28
The city Department of Parks and Recreation will hold a Junior Home Run Derby on Saturday, April 28, at 2 p.m. at Ryan Howard Field, at 9th Street and Hunting Park Avenue. Boys and girls will be divided into 12-and-under and 14-and-under age divisions.There is no fee to compete. Winners will advance to regional competitions, with regional winners advancing to the national finals, held during Major League Baseball’s all-star week. Nutrition assistance for seniors
Residents 60 and older who are disabled and have low to modest income may be eligible for SNAP benefits. If you are single and your income is less than $1,962 a month, or less than $2,656 a month for a couple, you may qualify. There is no limit on how much a senior has in savings and checking accounts.
