Home run derby

The city Department of Parks and Recreation will hold a Junior Home Run Derby on Saturday, April 28, at 2 p.m. at Ryan Howard Field, at 9th Street and Hunting Park Avenue. Boys and girls will be divided into 12-and-under and 14-and-under age divisions.There is no fee to compete. Winners will advance to regional competitions, with regional winners advancing to the national finals, held during Major League Baseball’s all-star week. Fishtown Neighbors Association will hold a zoning meeting on Tuesday, May 1, at 7 p.m. at Fishtown Recreation Center, 1202 E. Montgomery Ave. Voting will take place on a proposal for the creation of four lots from three existing and the erection of four attached single family houses with roof deck, roof deck access structures and accessory garage-front parking at 2316–22 E Fletcher St. All residents and business owners in Fishtown are eligible to vote. Support group

Lost parents and family members group meets every third Monday of the month at 7 p.m. at Cione Recreation Center, Lehigh and Aramingo avenues. Anyone who is suffering from the loss of a loved one, friend or whoever is welcome.

Nutrition assistance for seniors

Residents 60 and older who are disabled and have low to modest income may be eligible for SNAP benefits. If you are single and your income is less than $1,962 a month, or less than $2,656 a month for a couple, you may qualify. There is no limit on how much a senior has in savings and checking accounts. For assistance in completing an application, schedule an appointment with the social service coordinator at St. Anne’s Senior Center, 2607 E. Cumberland St., (215) 426–9799.

Support group

Nutrition assistance for seniors

Residents 60 and older who are disabled and have low to modest income may be eligible for SNAP benefits. If you are single and your income is less than $1,962 a month, or less than $2,656 a month for a couple, you may qualify. There is no limit on how much a senior has in savings and checking accounts.
