Tigers Tot Soccer registration

Port Richmond Tigers’ Tot Soccer season will start next week. Last call for sign-ups. The program is for boys and girls ages 3 to 6. Come to the Tigers’ Clubhouse, Chatham and Ann streets, Monday through Friday, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Post 821 canteen reopening

The American Legion Post 821 will reopen its canteen starting on Friday, Sept. 7. The canteen will be open Fridays. 6 to 11 p.m., Saturdays. noon to 7 p.m., and Sundays, noon to 7 p.m. Canteen is a non-smoking bar.

Flea market

The Friends of Konrad Square will host a flea market on Saturdays, Sept. 8 and 22, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Konrad Square, Tulip and Dauphin streets.

Flea market

Bridesburg Methodist Church will sponsor a flea market on Saturday, Sept. 8, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bridebsurg Recreation Center, 4600 Richmond St.

Bethesda Church penny party

Bethesda Methodist Church, 2820 E. Venango St., will hold a penny party on Saturday, Sept. 8. Doors open at 11 a.m. Event starts at 1 p.m.

Cost is $5 for a strip of tickets, coffee, tea, and a dessert. Spend $20, get four strips of tickets and one free.

Hot dogs, hoagies, soda, and water will be available for purchase. ••

St. George monthly Bingo

St. George monthly Bingo resumes Sunday, Sept. 9, at 12:30 p.m. in the Church Hall, Salmon and Venango streets.

$8 and $10 packages available. Kitchen will be open.

Bingo will be held every second Sunday of the month. ••

Fleet Reserve Association meeting

Fleet Reserve Association George L. Carlin; Branch 001 will hold a meeting on Monday, Sept. 10, at 1 p.m. at USCG Sector Delaware Bay,1 Washington Avenue.

Philly Premiere Screening of Muhammad Ali: “Me Whee”

The Philly premiere screening of Muhammad Ali: “Me Whee” will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m. at the Veteran Boxers Association Clubhouse, 2733 E. Clearfield St.

Admission is $10 and includes film screening followed by a Q&A with a panel of boxing experts including ESPN’s Nigel Collins, light food, and drink specials. VBA is cash only with no ATM on-site.

LSH programming

Lutheran Settlement House, 1340 Frankford Ave., is offering several classes to the public. Art classes for ages 55 and older will be held on Wednesdays, at 10:30 a.m. Instructor is Barbara Morehead and suggested donation is $2.

OLHC PHC meeting

The Philadelphia Historic Commission Committee on Historic Designation will hold a meeting at on Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 9:30 a.m. in Room 18–029, on the 18th Floor of the municipal office building at 1515 Arch Street, One Parkway Building). The meeting is open to the public.

On the agenda is Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 2424 E. Allegheny Ave. The nominator is Celeste Morello, with historical designation as the proposed action. A&W playground programming

Frank Glavin “A&W” Playground, 2600 E. Westmoreland St., will have registration for their 4-year-old and older, dance and tumbling programs, on Thursday, Sept. 13, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. A $20 non-refundable registration fee per program will be collected. Other programs offered are Tae-Kwon-Do and Girl Scouting programs.

St Valentine flea market and picnic

St. Valentine Parish will host a flea market at Pulaski Park, 875 Mill Road, Bensalem on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will feature homemade Polish food. Vendors welcome. Girl Scout Troops at Frank Glavin “A&W” Playground, 2600 E. Westmoreland St. will resume for the 2018–19 scout year the week of Sept. 17 as follows: Brownies, 1st -through 3rd grade, Monday, 6:45 to 8 p.m.; Daisy, K and 1st grade, Tuesday, 6:05 to 7 p.m.; Older Girl, 6th through 12th grade, Tuesday, 7 to 8 p.m.; and Junior, 4th through 6th grade, Wednesday, 6:45 to 8 p.m.

EKNA meeting

The next East Kensington Neighbors Association monthly meeting will be held on Monday, Sept. 17, at Philadelphia Brewing Co., 2440 Frankford Ave. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. Meeting runs from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m., followed by committee break-out time from 7:45 to 8:30 p.m.

Vermont-New Hampshire trip

Fall Toy Train Show and Sale

The Train Collectors Association Atlantic Division will hold its Fall Toy Train Show and Sale on Sunday, Sept. 23, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sheet Metal Workers Union Hall, 1301 S. Columbus Boulevard.

Admission is $5.00 per attendee, or per family of two adults and all children 12 and under years. There will be a variety of vintage toy trains and repair parts for sale, operating toy train layouts, and toy train activities for the kids. Food is available on premises.

Post 821 Chili Cook-Off

American Legion Post 821, 4404 Salmon St., will host its first chili cook-off contest on Saturday, Oct. 6, at 3 p.m. Members, sons, and auxiliary in good standing are eligible to compete. Cost to compete is $20.

A judges’ winner and “Peoples Choice Winner” will be selected. The winning chili moves on to the District final.

Senior Expo

State Rep. John Taylor will host his final, annual Senior Expo on Friday, Oct. 12, from 10 a.m. to noon at Cohox Recreation Center, Cambria and Cedar streets.

Revised Mass schedule for Port Richmond parishes

The new Mass schedule for St. George, Mother of Divine Grace, and Nativity parishes is now in effect.

Saturdays Masses will be held at MDG at 4 p.m. and Nativity 5:30 p.m. Sunday Masses will be held at St. George at 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m., Nativity at 10 a.m., and MDG at 11:30 a.m. ••

Older Adult Center offering driving course

Free farmers’ market vouchers

Philadelphia Corporation for Aging’s annual distribution is underway for free Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program produce vouchers. Eligible Philadelphia seniors can receive $20 worth of vouchers that can be used to purchase fresh Pennsylvania-grown produce sold at certified farmers’ markets.

Income-eligible Philadelphia residents who will be 60 or older by Dec. 31 of this year, may receive the vouchers at PCA, 642 N. Broad St. on weekdays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and at other designated sites.

Proof of age and Philadelphia residency must be presented to receive vouchers. Seniors must sign in person and may receive the vouchers only once per year.

Vouchers are available while supplies last. ••

Post 821 seeks new members

American Legion Auxiliary Post 821, at 4404 Salmon St., would like to invite women who are qualified to join the post. Individuals must have a blood relative who is now serving or did serve in the military to join. Yearly dues are $20.

Frank Glavin, A&W Playground, is looking for an energetic and knowledgeable instructor for its Tumbling Program, which serves children aged 3 through teen.
