Water Department wants to hear from you

The Philadelphia Water Department is welcoming residents to fill out an annual customer satisfaction survey that helps guide programs and services.

Any Philadelphia resident 18 and older who takes the survey at www.pwdsurvey.com or by texting @water to 39242 can enter a raffle to win a $100 gift card.

The survey is available in English and Spanish and takes less than 10 minutes to complete.

Residents are urged to take the survey and share their experiences on topics such as drinking water habits, water quality, communications preferences, infrastructure awareness, sustainability and overall perceptions of PWD.

Answers and personal information will be kept completely confidential. ••

 

Women’s self-defense class

A women’s self-defense class sponsored by Councilman Bobby Henon will be held on Wednesday, March 11, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Bridesburg Rec Center, 4625 Richmond St.

Bridesburg Historical Society meeting

The Bridesburg HistoricalSociety will meet on Wednesday, March 11, 7 p.m. in the meeting room at St. John Cantius Convent, 4400 Almond St., adjacent to the parking lot.

The presenter will be Mary Duffy Campbell, a Bridesburg native, who will share her experience of being a contestant on the game show JEOPARDY.

There is no cost to attend. Everyone is welcome.

Philly Fixers Guild Repair Fair

Philly Fixers Guild will host a free repair fair at Cohox Recreation Center, 2901 Cedar St., on Saturday, March 14, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Guests are welcome to bring a broken item in and meet with a volunteer fixer who will try to help the guest repair the item. ••

 

Upcoming kids and adult art classes at Portside Arts Center

Portside Arts Center, 2531 E. Lehigh Ave., will offer art classes for kids and adults this spring.

Upcoming classes include Saturday youth and teen classes on March 14 and 28, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $25 per class or $90 for four classes.

Mosaic adult class will be Thursdays, through March 26, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Cost is $120, or $85 for open studio. Sign up with a friend and receive $20 off.

Upholstery adult class will be held on Tuesdays, from March 24 to May 26, from 6 to 9 p.m.; Wednesdays, March 25 through May 27, from 6 to 9 p.m.; and Saturdays, March 14 through May 2, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost for each series is $425.

Stained glass adult class will be held on Thursdays, from April 2 through 30, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Cost is $140.

Bingo at St. Michael’s Church

St. Michael’s Church, Trenton Avenue and Cumberland Street, will host bingo on Saturday, March 21, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Doors open at noon.

Packages are $20 and include lunch. ••

 

Friends of Penn Treaty Park programs

Friends of Penn Treaty Park, 1199 N. Delaware Ave., will host programs at the park this spring.

The fishing derby will be held on Saturday, March 28, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Free for all participants. License required for adult fishers. Bait and rod provided to children. Cash prizes will be awarded.

The Philadelphia Kite Festival will be held on Saturday, April 4, from noon to 6 p.m. Kite-making crafts will be available for purchase or bring your own kite.

The Easter egg hunt will be held Sunday, April 5, at 11 a.m.

All children participants will receive a candy prize. ••

 

Candy scramble and Easter hat and tie contest

Bridesburg Recreation Center, 4625 Richmond St., will host its candy scramble and Easter hat and tie contest on Saturday, April 4, at 2 p.m. for children 10 and under.

The Easter Bunny will arrive at 1:30 p.m. Bring a camera to take pictures.

There will be a 50/50 raffle, trombola, trophies and candy. ••

 

Bridesburg Rec Tot Time

Bridesburg Recreation Center, 4625 Richmond St., will offer Tot Time (2) on Mondays and Thursdays, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. or noon to 2 p.m. starting in September.

Child must be two by Sept. 1.

St. Hubert holding basket raffle

St. Hubert High School, Torresdale and Cottman avenues, will be hosting Baskets for Bambies on Saturday, April 4, from 7 to 11 p.m. in the cafeteria.

There will be more than 75 baskets and other high-end prizes. It’s an all-ages event, and people need not be present to win.

Admission is free. Soda, water and soft pretzels will be provided. Visitors are welcome to BYOB, food and snacks. DJ Mary Clifford will be playing tunes. ••

 

Spring programs at Heitzman Rec

Heitzman Recreation Center, 3631 Amber St., will host programs in the spring.

Heitzman Olympics will begin on Monday, April 6, and feature introduction to wiffle ball, basketball, floor hockey, dodgeball and more. Cost is $10 for six weeks of games and a party. Program will be held on Mondays, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Indoor flag football for ages 6 to 13 will be held on Wednesdays, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., and begins on April 1.

Help raise money for Honey’s Angels

Honey’s Angels Super Cycle Saturday, a four-hour indoor cycling event for all fitness levels, will take place on April 18, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Northeast Cycle, 9910 Frankford Ave.

Individuals and teams of four are invited to join.

Teams of four are required to donate a total of $400. Participants will be given an information sheet to solicit donations.

Team members will alternate turns on their bike. Music will play, and water and towels will be provided.

Honey’s Angels provides food and supermarket gift cards to cover holiday meals for 500 families living in Philadelphia; sponsors meals at Broad Street Ministry; holds monthly birthday parties at Nativity BVM Place, a Port Richmond housing facility for seniors with limited financial means; and pampers struggling mothers on Mother’s Day.

Donations can be sent to PayPal or Venmo, or send checks payable to Honey’s Angels to 2903 Guilford St., Philadelphia, PA 19152.

Enter bean bag toss/corn hole tournament

The Northeast Catholic Alumni Association will sponsor a Bean Bag Toss/Corn Hole Tournament on Saturday, April 25, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Fireman’s Hall Museum, 2500 Lefevre St., in Bridesburg.

The cost is $50 per player or $35 for non-players. All proceeds benefit the alumni association.

There will be prizes to the top two teams. Admission includes draft beer, wine, soda and hot buffet. The event will include a cash bar, 50/50 and a raffle for a set of Northeast Catholic corn hole boards.
