Shortly after the 10:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, Oct. 25, parishioners gathered in front of St. Adalbert Church for a special occasion: a statue blessing.

Mergers of a handful of Port Richmond parishes led to the formation of St. John Paul II parish, and a statue of the parish’s namesake was placed on Allegheny Avenue.

Led by the efforts of the Rev. Jan Palkowski, parishioners funded the statue to commemorate the 100th anniversary of St. John Paul II’s birth.
