Fishtown Neighbors Association will hold a Beautification Committee meeting on Thursday, March 25, at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom.

Weather-permitting, the meeting will be in-person. 

Social distancing and masks guidelines must be followed.

I-95 and street closures in the River Wards

The ramp from Aramingo Avenue to southbound I-95 at the Girard Avenue Interchange closure was rescheduled and will be closed on Thursday, March 25, at 9 p.m. until Friday, March 26, at 5 a.m. for a traffic pattern shift on the ramp, according to the state Department of Transportation.

During the closure, motorists will be directed from Aramingo Avenue to travel east on Cumberland Street, turn right on Richmond Street to Delaware Avenue, turn right on Callowhill Street and follow detour signs to the ramp to southbound I-95.

Eastbound Girard Avenue will be closed at the Girard Avenue Interchange area for overhead bridge construction through Friday, March 26, at 3 p.m. Eastbound Girard Avenue traffic heading for Richmond Street will be detoured east on Frankford Avenue to Delaware Avenue/Richmond Street.

During construction, Richmond Street will also be closed to through traffic between Lehigh Avenue and Ann Street for overhead construction on the southbound I-95 viaduct. Richmond Street traffic will be detoured on Lehigh Avenue, Aramingo Avenue and Allegheny Avenue around the closure.

The work at Girard Avenue is part of the $312 million project currently underway through 2023 to reconstruct southbound I-95 and the southbound Girard Avenue Interchange. For more details, visit www.95revive.com.  ••

 

Spring workout sessions

The Leprechaun Sports Association will hold spring football workout sessions on Sundays, from March 28 to April 25, from 10 a.m. to noon at Cohox Field, Gaul and Ann streets.

Spring cleanup in Fishtown

The Fishtown District will partner with SEPTA for the Philadelphia Spring Clean-Up on Saturday, April 10, to clean and beautify the neighborhoods and commercial corridor, including the SEPTA station at Front Street and Girard Avenue.

Port Richmondopoly spaces available

The Leprechaun Sports Association and Port Richmond Neighbors Association is selling advertising spaces for the 2021 Port Richmondopoly board game.

A local twist on the popular board game, Port Richmondopoly was first available in 2007 and sponsored by the former Our Lady Help of Christians School and parish.

The fundraiser will support sports programs offered by the Leprechauns and future programs organized by the Port Richmond Neighbors Associations.

Restaurant sponsors needed for community meals

Lutheran Settlement House, 1340 Frankford Ave., is seeking restaurants to sponsor its takeout-style community meals initiative.

Sponsors should provide meals to serve 50 people in individually portioned, takeout containers. 

Volunteers are welcome to help distribute the meals, but are not required.

Community meals are distributed every third Thursday of the month, from 3 to 5 p.m.

Food distribution at Bridesburg Rec Center

Bridesburg Recreation Center, 4625 Richmond St., through Councilman Bobby Henon’s office, will distribute complimentary boxes of food to families in the community on Wednesdays, from noon to 3 p.m.

Boxes will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, and individuals are asked to take one per family.

Rock to the Future is offering free, virtual one-on-one support for children in grades 1 through 12.

Portside Arts Center virtual art classes

Portside Arts Center, 2531 E. Lehigh Ave., is offering virtual classes.

Available classes include Animals Around The World for ages 4 to 6 on Sundays, from 10 to 11 a.m.; and Art Around The World for ages 7 to 9 on Saturdays, from 10 to 11 a.m.

Classes cost $10 each.

In-person classes will be held at Cherry Street Pier, 121 N. Columbus Blvd.

Classes include Saturday Youth Class for ages 4 to 10, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $15 per class or $50 for four classes; Teen Portfolio Building Workshop on Saturdays, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., for ages 11-17. Cost is $15 per class or $50 for four classes; Beginners Upholstery and Open Studio Upholstery for ages 18-plus. Cost is $450 for new students or $375 for returning students. Schedule is Tuesdays, from 6 to 9 p.m., Thursdays, from 6 to 9 p.m., and Saturdays, from noon to 5 p.m. 

Portside Summer Arts Camp will be in-person. 

Schedule is June 21 through Aug. 20, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Camp open to ages 4 to 13.

Cost is $325 per week.
