Riverfront North BIG funding

The final cycle of Riverfront North BIG grants  will be accepted and awarded on a rolling basis through Sept. 15.

Applicants in the 19137 ZIP code can request $500 for their project.

Grants are designed to spread the word about what is offered to residents in the neighborhood.

Three categories of funding for projects are nature or outdoor-based activities; community building; and intergenerational activities.

The grant program is supported by the William Penn Foundation.

PROPAC monthly meeting

Port Richmond on Patrol and Civic will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, July 7, at 7 p.m., at the Columbia Social Club, 3521-29 Almond St.

Representatives from the 24th Police District will be present.

School supplies donations can be dropped off for the backpack giveaway.

Movie Music in the Park

Fishtown District, in partnership with the Philadelphia Film Society, will host its inaugural friends and family Movie Music in the Park on Sunday, July 11, from noon to 2 p.m. at Penn Treaty Park, 1301 N. Beach St.

Live music by Frantastic Noise will take place at 12:45 p.m.

Suggested donation is $10 per person or $25 for families of three or more.

Veterans Appreciation Barbecue

State Rep. Joe Hohenstein, City Councilman Bobby Henon and the Mayfair BID will host a Veterans Appreciation Barbecue on Saturday, July 10, from 1 to 4 p.m., at Frankford and Cottman avenues. 

Veterans and their families are invited to attend the free event, which will feature dozens of vendors; veteran-specific federal, state and city resources; and free food. Czerw’s Kielbasa and Marinucci’s Deli have both donated food. Music will be provided by Evryman Jack.

Hohenstein’s staff will be on-site to assist with SEPTA Senior Key Cards, Real ID information, Veterans Assistance Program information and other state-related services and programs.

Some of the vendors featured include Veterans Multi-Service Center, Veterans Affairs and city services, which will offer a range of constituent services. Temple University Health System will have a vaccination station on site as well.

Rain date is Saturday, July 17.

FNA children’s art contest

FNA is sponsoring the “Draw Yourself as a Fish!” children’s art contest.

Contest is open to children ages 5 to 13.

Participants are asked to draw what they would look like as a fish doing their favorite Fishtown activity.

Contest runs until July 21.

Participants should include name, age, school attended and phone number on the back of the picture.

Entries can be dropped off at Shissler Rec Center, 1800 Blair St., or Fishtown Rec Center, 1202 E. Montgomery Ave. ••

Water Ice with a Cop

Powers Park Conservancy, 2965 Almond St., will host Water Ice with a Cop at the park on Thursday, July 22, at 6 p.m.

Event is sponsored by Councilman Mark Squilla, The Fairmount Park Conservancy, the UPS Store in Cinnaminson and Philadelphia Parks and Recreation. ••

Trip to Tropicana

Holy Innocents Parish is sponsoring a trip to the Tropicana casino in Atlantic City on Wednesday, July 21.

A bus will depart L Street and Hunting Park Avenue at 9 a.m. and leave the casino at 4:30 p.m.

The cost is $35, due by July 10. There will be $20 in slot cash.

Food pantry at St. Michael’s

St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, Trenton Avenue and Cumberland Street, hosts a food pantry on Thursdays, from 11 a.m. to noon.

Nashville-Memphis trip with Polish American Cultural Center 

Polish American Cultural Center Happy Travelers are organizing a seven-day trip to Nashville and Memphis from Oct. 10 through Oct. 16.

The trip will consist of two nights in Gaylords Opryland, tickets to the Grand Old Opry, Elvis experience in Graceland with a tour of his mansion, a guided tour of Nashville, guided tour of Memphis and much more.

Clothing and nonperishable food donations for the Bridesburg Food Pantry can be dropped off at the Bridesburg Recreation Center, 4601 Richmond St., on weekdays, from 1 to 8 p.m. ••

Richmond Library children programs

Outdoor Preschool Storytime will be held every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.

Join Ms. Meghan in front of the library for stories, songs and fun at these in-person, outdoor storytimes.

Participants ages 2 and up must wear a mask and distance themselves from other groups. Space may be limited. 

Recommended for ages 4 and under with caregivers. Siblings welcome. 

Outdoor Read, Baby, Read Storytime will be held every Thursday, at 10:30 a.m.

Lutheran Settlement House, 1340 Frankford Ave., will host a free farm stand and choice pantry every Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The farm stand will feature complimentary produce, meat, dairy, vegan options and a variety of shelf-stable canned goods.
