River Wards events for the week of July 28

Call for cookbook recipes

The Free Library and Interfaith Philadelphia are seeking recipes from home cooks for a free to low-cost community cookbook, Kensington, Fairhill and River Wards Community Cookbook.

Submission deadline for recipes is Tuesday, Aug. 31.

Forms can be dropped off at residents’ local branches, emailed to chalmerst@freelibrary.org, or submitted online at tinyurl.com/KensingtonCookbook. ••

Riverfront North BIG funding

The final cycle of Riverfront North BIG grants will be accepted and awarded on a rolling basis through Sept. 15.

Applicants in the 19137 ZIP code can request $500 for their project.

Grants are designed to spread the word about what is offered to residents in the neighborhood.

Three categories of funding for projects are nature or outdoor-based activities; community building; and intergenerational activities.

The grant program is supported by the William Penn Foundation.

Josh Ashton Baggo Tournament

The Josh Ashton Til Valhalla Baggo Tournament, honoring the VFW Post 2 vice commander who passed away in March, will be held on Saturday, Sept. 18, from noon to 4 p.m. at the VFW Post 2, 4638 Richmond St.

Cost is $100 per two-man team, $25 to spectate.

Cash prizes to first and second place.

After-party will feature live music. The tournament will feature beer, food, DJ, raffle baskets and 50-50s.

Teams must sign up by Sept. 12.

Food pantry at St. Michael’s

St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, Trenton Avenue and Cumberland Street, hosts a food pantry on Thursdays, from 11 a.m. to noon.

All are welcome. ••

Nashville-Memphis trip with Polish American Cultural Center 

Polish American Cultural Center Happy Travelers are organizing a seven-day trip to Nashville and Memphis from Oct. 10 through Oct. 16.

The trip will consist of two nights in Gaylords Opryland, tickets to the Grand Old Opry, Elvis experience in Graceland with a tour of his mansion, a guided tour of Nashville, guided tour of Memphis and much more.

All are invited.

Bridesburg Food Pantry

Clothing and nonperishable food donations for the Bridesburg Food Pantry can be dropped off at the Bridesburg Recreation Center, 4601 Richmond St., on weekdays, from 1 to 8 p.m. ••

Drink can tabs donations needed

Soda and beer can tabs donations to benefit the Ronald McDonald House can dropped off at the Bridesburg Recreation Center, 4601 Richmond St., on weekdays, from 1 to 8 p.m. ••

Richmond Library children programs

Outdoor Preschool Storytime will be held every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.

Join Ms. Meghan in front of the library for stories, songs and fun at these in-person, outdoor storytimes.

Participants ages 2 and up must wear a mask and distance themselves from other groups. Space may be limited. 

Recommended for ages 4 and under with caregivers. Siblings welcome. 

Outdoor Read, Baby, Read Storytime will be held every Thursday, at 10:30 a.m.

Lutheran Settlement House farm stand

Lutheran Settlement House, 1340 Frankford Ave., will host a free farm stand and choice pantry every Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The farm stand will feature complimentary produce, meat, dairy, vegan options and a variety of shelf-stable canned goods.
