Kensington-based Prevention Point Philadelphia was recently announced as one of the 27 organizations awarded a total of $300,035 in grants from Philly AIDS Thrift to support both HIV prevention and care as well as people living with HIV/AIDS in the Delaware Valley.

PPP has long been working to promote health and empowerment for communities most affected by drug use and poverty. Services offered include HIV and hepatitis C testing, syringe services and medication-assisted treatment and recovery.

Since being founded in 2005, Philly AIDS Thrift has developed into one of the city’s largest thrift stores and nonprofit organizations, helping to raise over $3.6 million to support Philadelphia regional organizations serving on the front lines of the HIV/AIDS crisis.

“The staff, volunteers and board at Philly AIDS Thrift could not be more honored to surpass our previous high, in dollars granted in a single RFP and our overall total of $3.6 million granted,” said Philly AIDS Thrift Board President Michael Bryne in a press release. “Especially at this moment when these incredible organizations doing amazing work are being challenged by the COVID-19 pandemic, we are so grateful.”

Philly AIDS Thrift started its grant program in 2014 as another way to serve the community, having awarded over $1.6 million in grants in that time.
