Latin festival on May 14

The Falls Banquet by EventRoostr is hosting Bucks County’s first Latin Music Festival on Saturday, May 14, from 4-9 p.m. at 80 W M Y Lane, Morrisville.

Headliners are Puerto Rican star Tony Vega and Krency Garcia, aka El Prodigio. Vega is an award-winning musician whose album Uno Mismo went platinum, while Garcia is a famous merengue tipico accordionist from the Dominican Republic.

In addition to music, there will be Latino-themed food and vendors. Beverages will be available.

The event is sponsored in part by a grant from Bucks County Tourism, one of only two grants given by the organization to for-profit organizations.

Early-bird tickets are $35 per person and early bird VIP tickets are $75 per person. The festival will be held rain or shine.

Ten percent of the proceeds from the event will be donated to Immigrant Rights Action, a nonprofit that educates and organizes immigrants and allies with the goal of building relationships and empowering change. The organization connects immigrants with community resources, provides legal referrals and provides small grants to assist with the cost of deportation defense. Friday is beer night at the Arsenal

Stickman Brews is holding a Pop Up Taproom every Friday, starting April 8, from 4-8 p.m., at BLDG39, an indoor/outdoor event venue at the Frankford Arsenal Business Center, 5401 Tacony St. Each Friday will feature three to four rotating seasonal Stickman Brews and food by one or more of the partners in Culinary Collective’s shared kitchen, starting with Bao & Bun Studio. This pop-up is open to the public. Take out beer and food are available. There is plenty of parking on site.

Bingo on May 7

St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, Trenton Avenue and Cumberland Street, will hold bingo on May 7, from 1-4 p.m. The cost is $20 and includes lunch. Call 215-423-0792.

Judge/St. Hubert Junior Night

The Guidance Departments of Father Judge and St. Hubert high schools will hold a Junior Night on Wednesday, April 6, from 7-9 p.m. in the auditorium of Judge, 3301 Solly Ave. A panel of college admissions and trade/technical representatives will be on hand to provide information and answer questions. Everyone is welcome, but all 11th-grade students and their parents are encouraged to attend. There will be guest speakers from La Salle University, Holy Family, Community College of Philadelphia and the Automotive Training Center on hand to discuss choosing a college, the application process, selection by admissions officers, two-year colleges as an option and pursuing an education in the trades.

Meet the candidates

Holme Circle Civic Association is holding a Meet the Candidates night on Wednesday, April 27, from 7-9 p.m. at St. Jerome Church, 8100 Colfax St. The following candidates are expected: U.S. Rep. Brendan Boyle and challenger Aaron Bashir; 6th Councilmanic District candidate Mike Driscoll; 173rd Legislative District candidate Pete McDermott; state Rep. Ed Neilson; and 5th Senatorial District candidate Sam Oropeza.

Spring Fling on Saturday

Prince of Peace Church, 6001 Colgate St., will host a Spring Fling on April 9, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The indoor festival will feature a flea market, holiday table, baked goods and chances sold for gift baskets. Homemade soups and lunch will be available. Call 215-342-9447.

Support charity basketball tourney

The Lace Up for Lisa men’s 3-on-3 charity basketball tournament will take place on May 15 at the Bustleton Bengals’ John Marynowitz Gym, 9945 President St. The cost is $100 for a team of three or four. The deadline to sign up is April 25. The tournament will be played in memory of Lisa Dombrowski, who died last June. Proceeds will benefit Penn Medicine’s Abramson Cancer Center. Dombrowski’s husband, Gary, and daughter, Nicole, are organizing the tournament. A Cardinal Dougherty graduate, she loved sports and competition. Lisa’s infant granddaughter, Lisa May Marie, will be there. The Bengals are donating the gym, and some PIAA referees are donating their time. The public is invited. There will be raffles, a DJ, T-shirt sales and concession stand. T-shirt sponsors will be accepted until April 25. The briefing for the tournament begins at 7:30 a.m., followed by the games at 8.

Help Karen and the Brain Aneurysm Foundation

Karen’s Bowling Alley Rally will take place on Saturday, May 28, from 6-9 p.m. at Thunderbird Lanes, 3075 Holme Ave. The evening will celebrate how far Kare Murphy has come in five years since being diagnosed with a brain aneurysm. Tickets per bowler cost $30 for a 21-and-older drink wristband or $20 for non-drinkers. The price includes three hours of bowling, shoe rental, pizza, soda and open bar for people with wristbands. There will be gift basket raffles and a 50/50. Sixty percent of proceeds will go to the Brain Aneurysm Foundation in Karen’s names. Forty percent of proceeds will go to Karen’s recovery, medical bills, rehabilitation and effort to return home. Sign up for senior softball

Philadelphia Senior Softball League is looking for experienced players for their 58 and over league. The season starts mid-April and runs through September. There are about 30 games along with playoffs. No games are played in July. Games are played Tuesday and Thursday at 10 a.m. at Crispin Field, Holme and Convent avenues. Two Father Judge graduating classes will be holding reunions this year. The Class of 1972 will hold its 50-year reunion at Father Judge on Saturday, April 30. Spring vendor fair and family fun day

Bridesburg Elementary Home and School Association will host Spring Vendor Fair and Family Fun Day on Saturday, April 30, from noon to 5 p.m., at St. John Cantius, 4435 Almond St.

Event will feature more than 20 crafters and vendors, Aqua String Band, Food by Flavor E, Kona Ice, coffee, desserts and more.

There will also be a kids zone, games, giveaways, basket raffles and a 50/50 raffle.

St. Hubert day trip

St. Hubert will hold its seventh annual summer fun day trip on Tuesday, June 21. There will be a one-hour ride on a cruise ship, followed by a four-hour stay at Resorts casino, with $10 back in slot cash. The day will end at the Tomasello winery for a sitdown dinner and complimentary wine tasting.

Trip to Atlantic City

Holy Innocents will hold a trip to Tropicana Casino on Thursday, April 21. A bus will depart L Street and Hunting Park Avenue at 9 a.m., and leave the Tropicana at 4:30 p.m. The cost is $35, due by April 14. There will be $20 in slot cash. Bridesburg Rec Summer Camp

Bridesburg Recreation Center, 4601 Richmond St., is holding summer camp registration.

There will be two encampments each running three weeks. Each session will offer early, day and extended options.

Camp is for youth in kindergarten through sixth grade as of September 2022.

Cost is $90 for early camp, $300 for day camp and $150 for extended camp.

First encampment will run from Tuesday, July 5 to Friday, July 22.

Second encampment will run Monday, July 22 to Friday, Aug. 12.

Portside Arts Center classes at Cherry Street Pier

Portside Arts Center at Cherry Street Pier, 121 N. Columbus Blvd., will host kids and adult classes.

Children’s Saturday class will be held on Saturdays, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The class is for ages 4 to 10. Cost is $15 per class or four classes for $55.

Teen Portfolio Building Workshop will be held on Saturdays, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., for ages 11 to 17.

Cost is $20 per class or four for $70.

Draw What You Feel Teen Workshop will be held on Saturday, April 9, from 2 to 5 p.m. for ages 11 to 17. Cost is $25 or $40 for both.

Family Art Night will be held every first Friday of the month from 6:30 to 8 p.m. for all ages. Cost is $25 per family.

Stained Glass Adult class will be held on Wednesdays, from April 27 to May 18, from 7 to 9 p.m. Cost is $295.

Portside on the Pier Summer Arts Camp will be held from June 27 to Aug. 12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday, for ages 6 to 10. Cost is $200 per week.

Samuel Rec Summer Camp

Samuel Recreation Center, 3549 Gaul St., is holding summer camp registration.

Registration will be available online; a link will be posted on the Samuel Rec Center Facebook page.

Camp is for children ages 6 to 12 and will run from Tuesday, July 5 to Friday, Aug. 12.

Cost is $600 and is due in two installments.

Camp includes daily breakfast and lunch, daily swimming, arts and crafts, sports, guest speakers and one trip per week.

Penn Treaty scholarship donations

Friends of Penn Treaty School and Fishtown Neighbors Associations are raising funds for the second annual Penn Treaty Neighborhood Scholarship.

The scholarship will be awarded to two seniors graduating from Penn Treaty School, 600 E. Thompson St., and support their post-high school education goals with an award of up to $5,000 each.

The organizations are working to raise $10,000 this year.

Applications for scholarships are due April 8 and winners will be announced on or before April 25.

Recipients will be honored at the FNA June general membership meeting on Wednesday, June 15.

Flea market

A flea market will be held at Almond and Cumberland streets, behind First Class Daycare, in the parking lot every Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Flea market at Roosevelt Mall

The Roosevelt Mall Flea Market will run outdoors in the parking lot at 2445 Cottman Ave., every Sunday through November, including Easter Sunday. The market runs 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. More than 150 vendors will be on hand featuring new and used items, household goods, electronics and all types of general merchandise. One parking space is $30. Portside Arts Center upcoming classes

Portside Arts Center, 2531 E. Lehigh Ave., is offering classes for kids and adults.

After school arts program is held Monday through Friday, from 3 to 6 p.m., for youth in pre-k through fifth grade. Cost is $350 per month.

Beginner Upholstery adult classes will be held on Saturdays, from May 7 to June 11, from noon to 5 p.m.; Tuesdays, from May 3 to July 5, from 6 to 9 p.m.; and Thursdays, from May 5 to July 7, from 6 to 9 p.m. Cost is $450.

Summer Arts Camp will be held June 20 to Aug. 19, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, for ages 4 to 13. Cost is $350 per week.
