The Port Richmond Pierogi Festival will be taking place for the first time since 2019 on Saturday, Aug. 20, at Gaul & Co. Malt House from noon to 6 p.m.

The festival, a celebration of Polish culture in the area, will feature over 100 vendors offering a wide array of food, drink and craft options. Entrance for the event is free of charge.

“We are happy to be joining forces with Gaul & Co. Malt House to feature some of the best local and surrounding area pierogi,” said Melissa Michalczyk of State Street Events.

More than a dozen local eateries will be serving pierogies, including Czerw’s, Donna’s Bar, Dinner House, Nemi, Pierogi Factory, Galley Kitchen and Pat’s Polish Deli Gladijca.

Other food offerings will be provided by the likes of Shirley’s Fried Ice Cream, Tastes Like Home, Swiacki Meats, Hardy Funnel Cake and Ashley’s Floating Floss.

First celebrated back in 2019, the festival was canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was again scheduled to take place in 2021 but those plans were also eventually scrapped. The inaugural festival was attended by nearly 10,000 people.

“We were able to purchase bigger tents, more tables and chairs, misters to keep cool and more entertainment for all ages,” Michalczyk said.

Live music and entertainment will include performances by TKO Polka Band and DJ Joe Narodowski.

Sponsored by Independence Blue Cross Blue Shield, All American Home Care and state Rep. Joe Hohenstein, a portion of the day’s proceeds will go toward the Friends of Campbell Square.
