Resurrection of Our Lord Parish, 2000 Shelmire Ave., will host a free event on Saturday, Sept. 10. There will be healing services, talks on “Faith & Cancer,” health screenings, activities for children, a concert, helpful resources and information and a White Mass honoring and blessing health care workers. Polish festival this weekend

The 56th Annual Polish American Festival at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa, located at 654 Ferry Road in Doylestown, takes place during Labor Day weekend, Saturday, Sept. 3, Sunday, Sept. 4 and Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 5, from noon to 8 p.m. each day.

The Polish American Festival features carnival rides, live music and stage shows and ongoing entertainment on the main stage and in the Polish Village highlighting Polish traditions and customs, Polish folk dance groups, along with a variety of Polish and American food and refreshments.

The $12 admission includes all events and carnival rides. The festival will continue Saturday, Sept. 10, and Sunday, Sept. 11, from noon to 8 p.m.

Buy Vietnam war memorial paver

The deadline is Sept. 5 to order a 12-by-12-inch granite paver to be completed by Veterans Day at the Philadelphia Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Front and Spruce streets.

The $400 donation made payable to (PVVM) Philadelphia Vietnam Veterans Memorial is used to maintain the site, which honors the 648 Philadelphians who died during the Vietnam War. Appropriate personalization that honors any veteran’s service includes four lines of

Meanwhile, a National POW-MIA Recognition Day observance will take place on Friday, Sept. 16, at noon at the PVVM.

The annual name reading is set for Saturday, Oct. 22, at noon. Volunteers are needed to read one of (or part of) the 34 panels that honor the 648 Philadelphians killed in the Vietnam War.

Riverfront North Partnership is sponsoring UnOrthodox Yoga on Wednesday, Aug. 31, at Lardner’s Point Park, 5202 Levick St.

A kids class will be at 5:30 p.m., followed by adults at 6:15.

Casino trip, Christmas show

Holy Innocents Parish is organizing a trip to Tropicana Casino in Atlantic City on Thursday, Dec. 1. A bus will leave L Street and Hunting Park Avenue at 9:30 a.m. The cost is $85, non-refundable, due Nov. 1.

The trip includes a ticket to The Modern Gentlemen, a Christmas show, at 3 p.m.; bus transportation; $25 in slot play; and a $15 food voucher. The bus will leave the casino at 5 p.m.

Bingo on Sept. 10

St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, Trenton Avenue and Cumberland Street, will be having bingo on Saturday, Sept. 10, from 1-4 p.m. Doors will open at noon. Packages are $20 and include lunch. Call 215-423-0792. 

Register for run/walk

The St. Hubert Alumnae Association is holding its first 5K Run – 1 Mile Family Walk on Saturday, Sept. 24, in Pennypack Park. The run and walk will start and finish in the “Little City” portion of the park, on Rhawn Street near Holmehurst Avenue. Same-day registration will be open starting at 7:30 a.m. The run starts at 8:30 a.m., followed by the walk at 9. The cost is $25 in advance and $30 on the day of the event, with T-shirts available to early registrants. Medals will be given to the top three males and females in age groups. Take part in Thanksgiving parade

The 45th annual Mayfair-Holmesburg Thanksgiving Parade will take place on Sunday, Nov. 20, from noon to 3 p.m. The community is invited to enter homemade floats, banners or vehicles, and organizations are encouraged to march. Volunteer banner carriers will receive six hours of community service. Apply by Nov. 6 (or Oct. 28 for new banners) at thanksgivingparade.org. Dawejko to fight at Parx

Veteran heavyweight fighter Joey Dawejko (21-10-4, 12 KOs), of Tacony, will return to the ring on Thursday, Sept. 1, at 7 p.m., when he faces Mike Marshall (6-3-1, 4 KOs), of Danbury, Connecticut, in an eight-round bout at Parx Casino.

Joe Hand Promotions is handling the 7-bout card.

In a four-round middleweight bout, Soslan Alborov (0-1) will take on Brendan O’Callaghan (2-1, 1 KO). Daiyaan Butt (10-2, 5 KOs), coming off a controversial decision loss, will be returning in a six-round super-lightweight bout against Tyrone Luckey (15-17-4, 11 KOs). Bryce Mills (8-1, 4 KOs), out of Liverpool, New York, will be competing against Larry Fryers (11-5-1, 4 KOs), out of Yonkers, New York, in a six-round lightweight bout. Former Pennsylvania Golden Gloves champion Karl Wylie (1-0) will compete in a four-round lightweight contest. Juan Davila (1-0, 1 KO) will be competing in a four-round super-lightweight bout.

Train show Sept. 25

The Train Collectors Association Atlantic Division will hold its Fall Train Show and Sale on Sunday, Sept. 25, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Penns Landing Caterers (Sheet Metal Workers Union hall), 1301 S. Columbus Blvd. There will be 140 tables with a variety of vintage toy trains and repair parts for sale, test track, operating toy train layouts, kids activities and door prizes for adults and children. Flea market at Roosevelt Mall

The Roosevelt Mall Flea Market will run outdoors in the parking lot at 2445 Cottman Ave., every Sunday through November. The market runs 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. More than 150 vendors will be on hand featuring new and used items, household goods, electronics and all types of general merchandise. One parking space is $30. Portside Arts Center classes at Cherry Street Pier

Portside Arts Center at Cherry Street Pier, 121 N. Columbus Blvd., will host kids and adult classes.

Children’s Saturday class will be held on Saturdays, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The class is for ages 4 to 10. Cost is $15 per class or four classes for $55.

Teen Portfolio Building Workshop will be held on Saturdays, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., for ages 11 to 17. Cost is $20 per class or four for $70.
