2nd Street Festival organizers recently announced that the fall edition of the Northern Liberties Night Market will be taking place on Thursday, Sept. 22, from 5 to 10 p.m.

Being held on 2nd Street between Laurel Street and Fairmount Avenue, the event will feature over 60 food trucks, mobile vendors, restaurants, bars and merchants. Live entertainment will also be provided.

Now organized by 2nd Street Festivals after having been scrapped by the Food Trust, the Night Market Series aims to bring attention and awareness to different parts of the city. Following a launch event in the fall of 2021, the first official iteration of the festival in Northern Liberties was held in May.

“We originally intended to launch something new in spring of 2020, but COVID had other plans,” said Owen Kamihira, the president of 2nd Street Festival Corp., in a press release. “After two years on hiatus, 2nd Street Festival is bursting at the seams to bring people back to Northern Liberties for fun and festivities. We had a great return with tens of thousands of people this summer – and we are back with Night Market in fall.”

Food options will be provided by, among others, 3 Roosters, Angie’s Vietnamese Cuisine, Bake ‘n Bacon, Calle del Sabor, Chank’s Grab-N-Go and Dr. Wutzit’s Wonder Balls, Haagen-Dazs and Moocheeze.

Meanwhile, drinks will be offered by Standard Tap, El Camino Real, Urban Village Brewing Co., Spuntino Wood Fired Pizzeria and many others.

Live entertainment at the festival will include various DJs as well as a performance from Snack Time Philly in the North Bowl parking lot. An after party at North Bowl will feature Benzel Cowan from Parliament and Funkadelic on drums, Eli Winderman from Dopapod and Octave Cat on organ, Dai Miyazaki from Ludacris on guitar, Jonathan Colman from Muscle Tough on bass and Ian Gray from Ocean Avenue Stompers on trombone.

“When we started the 2nd Street Festival, we just wanted to celebrate our neighborhood and have fun doing it,” said Oron Daskal of North Bowl. “It’s amazing how much interest it draws now and how much life it brings to 2nd Street.”

Attendance is free of charge for visitors, and is pay-as-you-go for food and drink. More information, including a full list of vendors, can be found at www.northernlibertiesnightmarket.com.
