Wildwood days in June

The Lutheran Settlement House Senior Center is sponsoring a trip to Wildwood from June 5-9.

The cost is $650 and includes round-trip transportation; four nights at Oceanfront Hotel; four full breakfasts and dinners; a visit to historic Smithville and Cape May; and a dolphin watch cruise.

Flea market on Saturday

Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, 801 N. Franklin St. (at Brown Street), will host a flea market on Saturdays, June 3 and 10, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sundays, June 4 and 11, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Items on sale will include clothes, toys, housewares, tools and collectibles. ••

Go see Mamma Mia!

The Star Players, of the city Department of Parks and Recreation, will present Mamma Mia! from June 2-4 at 7 p.m. at Venice Island Performing Arts Center, 7 Lock St. in Manayunk. Animal Champions Summer Kickoff will be on Tuesday, June 6, at 4 p.m. Meet live animals from the Center for Aquatic Sciences at Adventure Aquarium and learn about the adaptations that help them thrive. All ages welcome.

Read, Baby, Read Storytime and Play Group will meet on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. on June 8, 15, 22 and 29. Join Ms. Meghan for lap time with stories, songs, rhymes and bounces for babies with caregivers. Stay after Storytime to play. Siblings welcome.

Friday Fun will take place on Fridays at 2 p.m. from June 23 to Aug. 18. Stop in every Friday for a new activity. Do crafts and science experiments, play games, build with LEGO bricks and more.

Literacy Enrichment Afterschool Program is in session Mondays through Thursdays from 3-6 p.m. and Fridays from 3-5 p.m., through June 30. LEAP is a free, drop-in afterschool program that offers homework help and activities for students in grades K-12 every day after school.

Alternative rock band coming to Rivers

Everclear, an alternative rock band that emerged in the ’90s, has announced a fall headlining tour featuring special guests The Ataris and The Pink Spiders. The bands will perform at Rivers Casino on Friday, Sept. 15, at 8 p.m. Tickets for The Event Center show start at $34.

Led by vocalist, guitarist and founder Art Alexakis, the quartet, who celebrated their 30th anniversary in 2022, has also revealed a live album, Live at The Whisky a Go Go, recorded during last year’s anniversary tour, is set to be released on Sept. 8.

Trip to Mackinac Island, Michigan

The Polish American Cultural Center Museum volunteers are sponsoring a 7-day, 6-night trip to Mackinac Island, Michigan from July 9-15. The trip consists of a ferry ride to Mackinac Island, two nights at the Grand Hotel, a horse-drawn carriage ride and visits to Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland, the Henry Ford Museum and the National Shrine of the Cross in the Woods. Travel solo

Starr Bus Charter and Tours will hold its first Solo Traveler event on Tuesday, June 6, from 3-5 p.m. at KleinLife, 10100 Jamison Ave. Representatives from KleinLife, along with Starr’s owners and staff, including travel advisers and tour directors, will help solo travelers learn about trips and make connections with other solo travelers. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about Starr’s 2023 vacations, get a sneak peek at 2024 trips, enjoy light refreshments and win prizes. The event is free.

The next solo trip will be to Corning, New York on July 26-27 and will feature visits to the Corning Museum of Glass and the Glenn H. Curtiss Museum. Travelers will explore 35 centuries of glass artistry, experience hands-on glass making, see historic aircraft and meet the craftsmen that restore them. There will be a buffet dinner and overnight hotel accommodations as well as a scenic boat ride on Seneca Lake.

The Philadelphia Water Department is undertaking utility construction on Frankford Avenue.

Through Wednesday, May 31, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., a weekday lane closure is scheduled on Frankford Avenue between Lehigh Avenue and Somerset Street.
