The Eagles Care Community spent a recent day at Franklin Towne Charter High School promoting participation in girls sports. The Philadelphia Eagles, in collaboration with Girls Inc., hosted a FLY:FWD event, a health and wellness clinic to promote and encourage a pro-girl environment. At the conclusion of the event, sports bras were distributed to FTC students in attendance.

Eagles offensive linemen Fred Johnson and Jordan Mailata held a special drills clinic. Eagles mascot Swoop and a trio of Eagles cheerleaders were on hand to pump up the energy.

Eagles insider Dave Spadaro highlighted the Eagles’ region-wide commitment to girls sports through their sponsorship of scholastic flag football leagues in Eastern Pennsylvania and South Jersey. This week the PIAA, Pennsylvania’s high school sports governing body, and the International Olympic Committee recognized flag football as an emerging sport, which will be included for the first time in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

Research by the Women’s Sports Foundation determined girls are twice as likely than boys to drop out of competitive sports by the age of 14. The foundation is committed to eliminating factors that reduce participation by girls and enhance opportunities for girls to be successful and reap the benefits of competing, on and off the field.

Launched in August, the FLY:FWD campaign is designed to remove one barrier to girls’ participation in sports by providing tri-state region female athletes in need sports bras. Through FLY:FWD, the Eagles and Operation Warm have a goal of donating 30,000 sports bras to youth female athletes this fall. ••
