Arrest in crash at Richmond and Allegheny

Police have arrested a woman they believe fled the scene of an accident in a gas station lot at Richmond Street and Allegheny Avenue.

The suspect has been identified as Bertha Johnson, 52, of the 3100 block of Tulip St.

The accident occurred on Jan. 12 at about 6:50 p.m.

A preliminary police investigation revealed that a 2011 Hyundai Sonata was traveling through the parking lot of the gas station when the vehicle struck a 53-year-old man pumping gas. The collision caused him to be pinned between the pump and his vehicle.

Police said the driver briefly exited the vehicle to bend her license plate. The Sonata then fled the scene of the crash, traveling westbound on Allegheny Avenue, according to police.

Medics responded and transported the victim to Temple University Hospital with two broken legs. The Hyundai Sonata was recovered by police at 3200 Tulip St.

Johnson has been charged with aggravated assault involving a vehicle and related offenses. ••
