Nothing says sushi quite like 1990s-era hip-hop.

That’s the concept behind the latest, most unique culinary experience in Fishtown’s ever-growing, ever-better restaurant scene. Sushi by Bou will open on May 10 adjacent to Izakaya Fishtown at 1832 Frankford Ave.

Sushi by Bou is described as a modern-day speakeasy-inspired omakase sushi experience. Designed to provide a “Sushi for the People” vibe in unique spaces where customers wouldn’t necessarily expect a full sushi experience, Sushi by Bou’s Fishtown location will celebrate ’90s hip hop with murals, hip hop collectibles and a nonstop soundtrack featuring Philly-area hip hop legends.

“We are thrilled to announce the grand opening of our first Sushi by Bou location in Pennsylvania,” SimpleVenue Founder Michael Sinensky said. “We think Fishtown is the perfect neighborhood to experience our ‘sushi for the people’ concept. It is casual, fun, affordable and faster paced. We hope to attract foodies, visitors and neighbors – including those in the Fishtown community that would become regulars during the month.”

Diners can enter Sushi by Bou through a dedicated entrance to the back room of Izakaya Fishtown. Once there, master sushi chefs craft a traditional omakase experience using ancient traditional techniques to showcase both locally sourced seafood and delicacies brought in from all over the world.

Each chef guides the diners through every course to create a lasting and memorable dining experience.

A 12- or expanded 17-course to choose from. Saki, rare Japanese whiskeys and other spirits, plus al a carte options and decadent desserts, are also offered. The no-less-than hour-long culinary thrill ride delights all the senses.

“Sushi by Boū’s distinctive ’90’s hip hop vibe pays homage to the legendary Notorious B.I.G., symbolizing the foundation of our company in New York,” chief hospitality officer Richie Romero said. “We proudly pay tribute to local icons such as Black Thought and Questlove of The Roots, Will Smith and Jazzy Jeff, Boyz II Men, Eve and many others. Through our vibrant atmosphere and culinary creations, we celebrate the enduring influence of these luminaries on both a national and local scale.”

Reservations can be made through the sushibybou.com website for seatings beginning at 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
