Nothing hits the spot on a summer afternoon quite like a hoagie.

If you want something that lasts a lot longer, why not find yourself a lifelong friend?

The Pennsylvania SPCA has taken inspiration from Wawa’s summer staple “Hoagiefest” to offer a special rate for adoption of pit bulls through Aug. 11.

The PSPCA has lowered the adoption fees for every available pit bull to just $5 at its Philadelphia headquarters on East Erie Avenue and at its Main Line Animal Rescue location in Chester Springs.

The inaugural PSPCA Pittiefest is underway through Aug. 11.

Pit bulls, which includes several breeds that share similar characteristics but aren’t a breed on their own, are among the most loyal and loving animals in the canine world. Despite their unfair reputation as aggressive, pit bulls raised with care and love quickly become treasured family members.

“We hope that PSPCA’s Pittiefest will become an annual summer tradition, celebrating the majestic animals that are commonly referred to as pitties,” PSPCA Public Relations director Gillian Kocher said. “This promotion is a time to find homes for these deserving animals, and celebrate everything about them, while simultaneously busting myths.”

While pit bulls come in different sizes, including shorti and classic, all pitties for this promotion will have the same $5 adoption fees. All normal adoption policies and procedures will be in effect during Pittiefest to ensure the pit bulls find suitable homes.
