The Lutheran Settlement House welcomed Congressman Brendan F. Boyle onto its Fishtown campus on Aug. 14 for a special ceremony. Boyle, of Pennsylvania’s Second District, was on hand to celebrate the granting of funds to help the LSH mission.

Boyle presented a check in the amount of $333,000 to Lutheran Settlement House as part of the congressional Community Project Funding initiative.

The CPF is designed to empower members of Congress to request funding for high-value projects in the communities they represent. These funds are separate from federal funding and grants that are mandated by formula or regulation.

Boyle’s CPF funding will contribute to the effort of Lutheran Settlement House in combating domestic violence. The fund will help LSH hire more domestic violence counselors and broaden the support services it provides to domestic violence survivors.

Since the onset of the pandemic, domestic violence rates have risen in the city of Philadelphia and its surrounding areas. Lutheran Settlement House and similar organizations have experienced increased demand for their services. The result has caused waiting lists and limits to the care that can be provided.

The Community Project Funding will be especially welcome and give Lutheran Settlement House more flexibility to offer life-changing or lifesaving domestic violence services.
