Damon Brockington, the head football coach at Frankford High School, has been named the Philadelphia Eagles’ 2024 High School Coach of the Year.

The honor was announced on December 19 during a surprise assembly at the school, where former Eagles wide receiver Fred Barnett and team mascot SWOOP joined the celebration.

Brockington’s coaching and mentorship are making an impact and have become a major story in Frankford High School news.

Brockington, a 2006 Frankford High graduate, has returned to his alma mater as a coach, teacher, and dean of 11th grade.

In his debut season, he guided the team to an undefeated record and a division championship, earning recognition as the Northeast Times’ 2021-22 Football Coach of the Year.

This season, the team achieved an impressive 9-3 record and dominated their conference with a perfect 5-0 performance.

They claimed the 5A Philadelphia Public League Championship, which was their first title in over a decade since 2013.

The Pioneers also advanced to the PIAA 5A District 12 Championship Game, a milestone that resonated throughout Bridesburg sports news and highlighted their journey so far.

“Growing up watching the Eagles, it feels amazing to be part of this program,” Brockington said after receiving the award. “This isn’t about me—it’s about the kids and their success. I’m grateful to the Eagles for recognizing what we’re building at Frankford High.”

Eagles Community Relations and Youth Football Coordinator Brendan Clark praised Brockington’s dedication to his players, their families, and the community: “Over the past 14 years, Coach Brockington’s commitment to high school football has made a lasting impact.”

Brockington himself attributes much of the team’s success to the close bond he shares with his coaching staff, many of whom are former Frankford players.

“I brought back the guys I played with because they know what it takes for these kids to win,” he said. “That connection has made all the difference.”

Brockington’s influence continues to grow off the field. He leads a youth football team and actively involves his high school players in mentoring younger athletes.

By connecting the youth program with his high school team, he creates opportunities for the younger players to experience the sport in a way that inspires them to dream bigger.

“I want to show them they can be role models,” Brockington added. “The more football they see, the better they’ll understand the game and their potential future.”

Frankford wide receiver and defensive end Jarron Whitehead spoke about Brockington’s impact on his players, saying, “He’s everything to us. Honestly, he’s like a second father. I can go to him for anything, and I know he’s got my back.”

The Eagles will provide Frankford High School a $1,500 voucher for new equipment, while Brockington will be awarded $1,000 for his accomplishments.

He will also compete for the Don Shula NFL High School Coach of the Year Award, which honors a coach who exemplifies leadership, integrity, and achievement.

Brockington, who described himself as proud to contribute to Frankford’s rich history, said, “Frankford is a homegrown name. It’s been around, and it’s always going to be around. I’m just trying to keep the legacy alive.”

He and the other Eagles Coaches of the Week from this season will be honored during the Week 18 game against the New York Giants at Lincoln Financial Field.

For the coach, this recognition is a celebration of the entire Frankford High community.

“At the end of the day, this award isn’t just for me—it’s for the kids. I’m blessed to be in this position, and I’m excited for what’s ahead,” Brockington said.
