Penn State New Kensington secured its playoff spot in the PSUAC with an 81-66 victory over Penn State Greater Allegheny in an outstanding performance.
Jayde Rivera led New Kensington with 27 points on 12-of-19 shooting, with Destiny Batiste adding a double-double—21 points, eight rebounds, 10 assists—and five steals to disrupt Greater Allegheny’s rhythm.
Tori Johnson also contributed 18 points, with the team setting the tone early.
Greater Allegheny struggled, especially from beyond the arc, as their one successful three-pointer out of seven attempts hindered their chances of a comeback.
In the second half, Rivera continued to attack decisively, pushing New Kensington to a commanding lead.
Despite strong contributions from Penn State Greater Allegheny’s Tomisha Pierce and Peyton Smith—who recorded 21 points and 11 rebounds—New Kensington’s pressure defense resulted in nine turnovers.
New Kensington also converted 77.8 percent of their free throws, securing the win down the stretch.
This 81-66 victory propels Penn State New Kensington into the PSUAC Men’s Basketball Championship, where the postseason battle continues.
The 2025 PSUAC Men Basketball Championship follows an eight-team, single-elimination format, with divisional matchups leading to the championship game.
The quarterfinals take place on Monday, February 24, 2025, with the semifinals scheduled for February 26 or 27 and the championship game set for Sunday, March 2, at the Bryce Jordan Center.
Penn State New Kensington will compete in their division’s PSUAC Women’s Basketball Championship.
