Temple University athletes are making a difference both on and off the field this spring. On April 27, the WSFS Bank Sportsplex in Chester, PA, will host a Youth Soccer Clinic led by Temple University’s standout men’s and women’s soccer players, including Paolo Kampula and Sabrina Campbell.

This dynamic Temple University soccer event offers young athletes ages 8-17 the opportunity to improve their skills through rotational training, friendly competitions, and tournament-style scrimmages.

Participants will be grouped by age and skill level to ensure the most effective training experience. Each group will rotate through different drills, learning fundamental skills from each college athlete.

The day will wrap up with fun scrimmages and valuable educational insights about collegiate athletics, recruitment, and life as a student-athlete. The youth soccer clinic, priced at $95 with early bird pricing ending on April 13, promises a positive and inclusive environment where athletes of all skill levels are welcome.

However, this soccer clinic is just one part of Temple University’s broader commitment to community engagement. Recently, Temple University athletes participated in Grassroots Health’s first-ever student-athlete training in Philadelphia. This non-profit initiative focuses on training Division 1 athletes to serve as health educators in middle schools, promoting health equity, nutrition, and mental wellness.

The training event was held at Temple’s Pearson and McGonigle Halls and drew participation from various Temple sports teams, including cheerleading, volleyball, rowing, softball, and fencing.

The program’s interactive approach uses games like ‘Scramble’ and ‘Capture the Nutrients’ to teach athletes about nutritional health and fitness. They also engaged in relay-style competitions designed to challenge their knowledge of sexual health and debunk harmful myths that circulate within communities.

Guided by Grassroots Health’s Philadelphia Program Coordinator, Treniyyah Anderson, and supported by Howard University athletes, the training proved both educational and enjoyable. Athletes left with a deeper understanding of how to use their leadership skills to make a positive impact in local schools and promote healthier lifestyles among youth.

The intersection of athletic training and health education represents a powerful movement within Philadelphia’s sports community. Temple University athletes are not only refining their craft but also expanding their roles as community leaders and mentors.

The upcoming youth soccer clinic at WSFS Bank Sportsplex will be another chance for these athletes to inspire young people and share their journeys as student-athletes.
