Stack’s Bowers Galleries, legendary dealer in rare coins, gold and silver bullion, and currency from all countries for over 9 decades, is celebrating this milestone throughout the month of October 2025 by inviting the general public to participate in an exciting treasure hunt. From rare coins to collectible banknotes, $40,000 in total prizes are waiting to be discovered.
The firm, with storefront retail galleries in Manhattan (New York), Boston (Massachusetts), Philadelphia (Pennsylvania), and Miami (Florida), will be hiding certificates redeemable for rare collectible coins and banknotes around those cities. Five iconic locations in each city have been selected, and each day during that city’s treasure hunt, a hidden prize certificate will be placed at one of the five locations. Stack’s Bowers Galleries will be posting clues for each of the hiding places on the firm’s Retail Store Page and main Stack’s Bowers Galleries’ social media pages. Each day will be a different location, and the lucky winner can bring their “Stack’s Bowers Certificate” to that city’s gallery to receive a numismatic prize. Follow these pages for updates every day.
Prizes will vary for each city, but each gallery will be giving away $10,000 worth of numismatic collectibles, ranging from an approximate retail value of $300 to a grand prize valued at around $3,500. Every winner will also receive a copy of the 2026 Guide Book of United States Coins, the most popular reference work in the hobby. Each finder can keep the prize, or Stack’s Bowers Galleries will be happy to buy it back from the lucky winner. It is the hope that this fun activity will spark an interest in collecting.
The dates for the Treasure Hunts are:
- Boston – October 7-11
- New York City – October 14-18
- Philadelphia – October 21-25
- Miami – October 28-November 1
“No firm has done more than Stack’s Bowers Galleries to bring awareness of our great hobby to the general public,” said company President Brian Kendrella. “Founded in 1933 by brothers Morton and Joseph Stack, and carried into the 21st century by Harvey and Lawrence Stack and Q. David Bowers, we are thrilled to celebrate this incredible milestone. Harvey and Dave have done much to transform numismatics from the hobby of kings to an entertaining pastime for all. The 50 State Quarter Program, envisioned by Harvey Stack in 1997 and implemented from 1999 to 2008, got people looking at their coins again. Over the course of his many years in the industry, Q. David Bowers authored more than four dozen books and countless articles to educate hobbyists.”
“What began as a coin store in mid-town Manhattan in the depths of the Great Depression has grown into an international numismatic powerhouse, with offices throughout the United States and in Europe (Paris and Denmark), Hong Kong, and Canada,” Mr. Kendrella continued. “As we look toward our centennial, we continue to spread our love of numismatics to the general public.”
“Our firm’s presence in New York is world famous. Prior to our current address at 470 Park Avenue, we spent nearly 70 years at 123 West 57th Street. However, more recently we opened galleries in Philadelphia in 2021, Boston in 2022, and Miami earlier this year, and these are not as universally well known,” commented Mark Schimel, the firm’s Director of East Coast Retail. “In addition to celebrating our long history, the treasure hunt is a way to connect in a fun way with folks in our newer locations.”
Participation in the nationwide treasure hunt is free to anyone and everyone. Those interested in learning more about the treasure hunt should follow Stack’s Bowers Galleries on social media @StacksBowers, and @StacksBowersRetail as clues will begin appearing on the firm’s Facebook and Instagram pages prior to the hunt.
