Each year, Port Richmond Neighborhood Action recognizes a senior citizen of the year.

This year, the civic association selected a couple.

The Port Richmond 2023 Seniors of the Year are Richard and Peggy Adamczyk.

Richard Adamczyk was born in 1932 and raised on the 3100 block of E. Thompson St.

In 1957, Richard and Peggy dated for six months, when he proposed.

They became Mr. and Mrs. Adamczyk on Oct. 26, 1957.

Last month, they celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary.

In 1960, they settled into a house on the 3300 block of Belgrade St., where they raised their three children.

Richard and Peggy still reside there today.

They’ve been parishioners of Nativity BVM Roman Catholic Church since 1960.

In the view of Port Richmond Neighborhood Action, they’ve exemplified the example of “The Port Richmond Neighbor” for more than 60 years.

In the 1960s, neighbors were a thread, all weaved together to create the blanket of “a neighborhood.” All were connected and weaved tightly. The unity was created this way many years ago by neighbors such as the Adamczyks and continues on today, thanks to neighbors such as them.

Peggy Adamczyk is a mother, wife, homemaker and neighbor – a full-time job.

Richard Adamczyk is a husband, father and neighbor, and was a Philadelphia firefighter for 24 years. ••
