One of the leading independently managed Catholic school systems looks for new leader
The Faith in The Future Foundation, which recently celebrated its fifth year of operations in directing the 17 High Schools and four Schools of Special Education in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, announced today that its founding CEO, Samuel Casey Carter, has announced his intention to step down effective December 31, 2017.
Mr. Carter has led Faith in the Future as it significantly reduced the decline in high school enrollment and strengthened the system as a whole. He and a committee of the board recently completed a detailed strategic planning exercise that clearly outlines key focus areas and actions required to further strengthen school operations across the system. Following the completion of that work, Mr. Carter and the FIF board jointly recommended that a new CEO be appointed to execute the plans that they developed. Mr. Carter is leaving FIF to pursue other professional career opportunities.
“Casey’s contributions over the last five years have been substantial and his vision for Catholic education in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia has served as a powerful motivator for our strategy going forward,” said Mr. H. Edward Hanway, Faith in the Future’s Board Chair.
Priorities advanced under Mr. Carter’s leadership — including talent development, improved enrollment management, increased investment in technology, the establishment of strong individual school boards, professionalized fundraising capabilities, and a data-driven approach to improving school operations — have all contributed to a resurgence in excitement for archdiocesan high schools.
“The assignment five years ago was to create a new institution that could help America’s first Catholic school system rebuild itself,” Mr. Carter said. “In the process of doing so, dozens of supportive partners have worked together to establish Faith in the Future as a national model for others to follow. I’m confident that the strong foundation established in Philadelphia will continue to benefit its Catholic schools well into the future.”
Faith in the Future will begin immediately to conduct a national search for a new CEO. Concurrently, Mr. H. Edward Hanway will assume the role of interim CEO as Mr. Carter and Mr. Hanway work together to ensure a smooth transition to new leadership over the remaining months of the calendar year.
