Fishtown and Port Richmond parks to see renovations, thanks to grants

The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ Bureau of Recreation and Conservation announced on Dec. 5 its “Community Conservation Partnerships Program” grants, which total over $38 million and target several River Wards-based parks and outdoor spaces.

They are, according to the department’s press release:

— A $500,000 grant for rehabilitation and further development of Pulaski Park in Port Richmond, at Delaware and E. Allegheny avenues. Work will include the renovation and stabilization of the pier, the construction of pedestrian walkways, installation of fencing, utilities, ADA access, landscaping, a project sign, and other improvements.

— A $100,000 grant for rehabilitation of Penn Treaty Park in Fishtown, at Beach Street and Delaware Avenue. Work will include installation of play equipment with required safety surface, site amenities, ADA access, landscaping, a project sign, and other improvements.

The project as a whole included the acquisition of 270 acres for 10 municipal parks and the acquisition of 2,448 acres for 17 open space and natural area conservation projects.
