Kissing a pig for a good cause

Stephen Hewitt, assistant principal at Maritime Academy Charter School, last week took part in TruMark Financial Credit Union’s Feed-A-Pig financial literacy fundraiser.

Like most of the other participants, Hewitt decided to feed a cracker to Raines using his mouth, effectively kissing the pig.

The Oct. 6 event, at Abington Art Center in Jenkintown, raised awareness and funds to support financial literacy programs in local schools such as Maritime. Funds raised will allow area schools to provide students with the tools needed to learn the basics of personal finance.

Sports-radio and podcast personality Marc Farzetta was the emcee.

To date, TruMark Financial has donated more than $350,000 to area schools in need of personal finance resources. The grants have been used to purchase resources such as calculators, computer software and textbooks to help teach the value of saving and the importance of managing money responsibly.
