NextFab, a makerspace with two locations in Philly, recently announced that it will host its first Sustain Your Neighborhood Art and Food Festival on Saturday, May 21, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at its Kensington location at 1800 N. American St.

Over 40 vendors, an activity tent for attendees of all ages, live music and food from popular Mexican restaurant Sor Ynez will all be part of the festival that is aiming to support local small businesses and help attendees connect with sustainability-focused resources.

“At NextFab we strive to sustain a tangible resource network for the local creative community that includes making meaningful connections between suppliers, people and opportunities,” said Melissa Guglielmo, the manager of NextFab’s Kensington location, in a press release. “With the Sustain your Neighborhood Art and Gift Market, we’re hoping to bring together those makers and resources to help impact the local community.”

The festival is part of NextFab’s bigger aim to encourage people to utilize sustainable resources by shopping thoughtfully to limit environmental impact. Some of the eco-friendly shops that are expected to take part include:

  • Ray’s Reusables, which offers eco-friendly lifestyle items such as soaps and lip balms.
  • Scrapyard Aesthetics, which sells handcrafted scrap metal clocks, lamps and sculptures.
  • RethinkTANK, which provides sustainable cork coaster sets and trivets, wooden magnet sets and wall art.

“Through fostering continued learning and sharing best practices, we are building toward an environment that is conscientious of their impact,” Guglielmo said.

More information about the festival can be found at NextFab.com.
