70SIX Boutique, a female-owned fashion boutique, recently opened the doors to its first location at 215 W. Laurel St. in Northern Liberties.

The shop, created by Lindsey McKinney, features women’s fashion, accessories, home decor and gifts all priced under $100. Store inventory includes activewear, special occasion wear and various other products. The first of its kind to call Northern Liberties home, the shop is aiming to provide quality products that are modern, can be styled in multiple ways and will last for many seasons to come.

“Northern Liberties has been waiting for a clothing boutique like 70SIX for so very long and we are thrilled to welcome Lindsey to the district’s list of female-owned small businesses,” said Kris Kennedy, the executive director of Northern Liberties Business Improvement District, in a press release. “We hope this accelerates a trend of boutiques seeking a storefront here.”

McKinney, who has always wanted to start her own clothing business, said that she was inspired to open the shop when she noticed that online shopping can oftentimes be inconvenient. She thought that opening a neighborhood clothing store could solve many of the issues associated with it, including having to pay for shipping and the hassles of returning unwanted items.

Upon moving to Northern Liberties from Fishtown in early 2021, McKinney said she immediately recognized the neighborhood would be the ideal spot for her boutique.

“I realized that the neighborhood needed more retail being that it is so densely populated with busy students, young professionals and growing families,” McKinney said. “I’m so excited that I get to immerse myself into the community and meet new people at the store every day.”

The shop is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays. More information can be found at shop70six.com.
