Fishtown Pickle Project recently announced two new projects in collaboration with Eight Oaks Farms Distillery that are now available for purchase.
The two pickle-centric products are a “Citrus Ramp Relish” and a tropical-themed jar of pickles called “Playa de Piña.” Barrels from Eight Oaks were used to make both offerings, with a chardonnay and gin barrel part of the relish and a rum barrel included in the Playa pickles.
“Essentially, Eight Oaks made their gin in a barrel once used to make chardonnay, and then we took that barrel and fermented cucumbers with ramps to make the relish, and then finished it with other products including local ramp vinegar and lemon,” said Fishtown Pickle Project co-owner Niki Toscani in a press release. “For the tropical pickles, we took one of their rum barrels and blended a bunch of flavors to make something that should taste like a tropical mojito. We are super pumped for this jar.”
This is the Fishtown Pickle Project’s latest collaboration with a local distillery, following previous efforts with Dad’s Hat PA Rye, Tamworth Distillery and Revivalist Gin. Eight Oaks, which is based in New Tripoli, in the Lehigh Valley, grows its own grains to craft a diverse array of spirits including bourbon, rye, whiskey, vodka and gin.
The relish retails for $10.50 for an 8-ounce jar while the Playa pickles sell for $10.50 for a 16-ounce jar. More information can be found at fishtownpickles.com.
